Since the Stooping Hawk is already a budget omnimech it seemed appropriate to use it for this challenge. You're not going to want to alpha strike in this thing too often, but the heat is fine if you stick to the brackets.

I decided I'd see what I could do without an XL engine as well with single heat sinks.  One hole puncher and an auxilary weapon to exploit the holes.  Round things out with a few none exploding AI weapons.

I figured if the clans are using single heat sinks it is to save on costs or because they were in trouble and needed numbers and could not spare anymore doubles to a new design.  This would be a Diamond Shark (or Sea Fox) design I would think.

In this mold my thoughts are for a mech that uses a standard engine and singe heat sinks.  It does use endo steel and fero fibrous armor (though armor could be replaced with standard if needed).  I found those did not increase cost too much over standard versions.  The mech is designed to be very versatile and be able to accomplish numerous jobs in one package so you could save your big purchases for something more specialized.  In keeping with versatility the mech was put in the classic 55 ton range with the seemingly standard 5/8/5 movement.  It also keeps the hand actuators as well.  It comes heavily armored for its size and with a standard engine that makes it very tough for its size. 

The mech was given a very nice electronics package so that it could serve many roles.  An active probe, ECM, and tag give it many additional duties. 

For weapons it is designed to be effective against many types of opponents.  The LRM 20 gives it a weapon it can use while it closes and for indirect fire.  It is paired with artemis for more accuracy.  The addition of medium pulse lasers help give it some sort of sustained presence on the field and give it some potent accurate weapons which help against jumping mechs or power armor.  TO deal with massed infantry and close range firepower the design comes with 4 anti personal gauss rifles with two tons of ammo in the arms to give them excellent fields of fire.  Lastly to further destroy infantry and the ability to start fires the mech also has a flamer.

The mech only has single heat sinks so it has troubles with over heating but pilots are expected to only use certain weapons at certain ranges and situations.  For example the LRM 20 is expected to realy only be used at long ranges and indirect fire situations rather than in conjunction with other weapons and the flamer was only to be used alone or with the the gauss rifles against infantry.  The medium pulse lasers are often used alone or only one in combination with a separate weapon.

IN terms of variants there is a thought of using a watchdog CEWS but it is thought that level of technology may be too expensive (honestly my builder lacks an accurate version of it so I did not try to use it).  Another version eliminates the pulse lasers and replaces them with an ER medium laser in the head and an SRM 4 in the chest with 2 tons of ammo in a side torso.  This has the same heat, more range, but less accuracy but the major advantage being looked at was the use of variant ammo and the fact that this would increase versatiliy such as the use of inferno ammo being highly advantageous against conventional vehicles which the standard mech had no special advantages against.

How about this a Grasshopper C?  Made to be a cheap and effective in fighter using more materials found in inner sphere salvage and factories (namely the single heat sink) the mech is built to heavily resemble the original design.  With an ER large laser it now has a weapon that can hit at very long distances.  Rather than use a small LRM launcher it added a six pack SRM launcher with two tons of ammo for alternate ammunition use.  Lastly there are 4 ER medium lasers.  While this version cannot quite fire all of its lasers together like the original without over heating it can fire 3 medium lasers and the large together which is almost as much and further it can now use all 4 medium lasers with the larger missile launcher while jumping with no problems with heat.

There is one variant out there that is popular with some former bondsmen from the Inner Sphere who get to pilot these second line mechs which is to replace the ER medium lasers with standard IS medium lasers.  While it reduces the damage and the range of the lasers the mech can now alpha strike with no heat gain outside of movement and makes the mech easier to replace and repair weapons on IS garrisons.
