Protomech sources
« on: 23 August 2012, 19:34:12 »
Hi there all!

I'm looking into Protomechs- both for construction rules and for existing designs. So I'm trying to make a list of all sourcebooks with Protomech stuff in them. I'm pretty sure I'm missing a book or two, so could someone point out which ones I'm missing?

Tech Manual (construction rules)
TRO-Prototypes (4 prototype designs)
TRO 3075 (7 Protomech designs)
Wars of Reaving (new equipment, super heavy construction rules, 4 new designs)

TRO 3060 has the original protomechs and TRO 3060 RS has more than a few of their record sheets

The reason I was asking was because I'm working on a Protomech design program.

See, I was sick of the way that Heavymetal Lite didn't have the new rules from Wars of Reaving, so I started working on my own Protomech Designer in Java.

It's coming along rather well- the problem is, I've only got Protomech construction rules for the sourcebooks I actually have- Tech Manual and Wars of Reaving. And Sarna doesn't have the Tactical Operations Protomech stuff.

Could someone with TO post the Protomech stuff, so I can finish off the program?

Work continues!

Do any of the sourcebooks or errata support the mounting of ATMs (or iATMs) on protomechs?

The Fusillade in Wars of Reaving functions in a manner similar to an iATM.

It only gets two shots tho. (Although you do get to choose what sort of ammo those two shots are.)

Going through Tech Manual and Tactical Operations, something odd came up.

LRMs can either be mounted as normal, mech-scale launchers (LRM5, LRM10, LRM15, LRM20), at normal weight.
They can also be mounted as individual tubes, which works rather better (lighter, usually). (This isn't the confusing part- I think it makes sense, and gives protomechs a nice little niche.)

Tactical Operations includes certian weapons- LRM 5/10/15/20 + Artemis IV.

The Artemis IV doesn't come separately for protomechs (as far as I can tell)- and there is no individual tube option for mounting singular tubes with Artemis IV either.

The same goes for SRMs. Is there something I'm missing, or is it only possible for Protomechs to mount Artemis IV systems in standard mech-size missle packs?

How close are you to finishing this? Cause I'd like to be first in line after you to try it!

At this point, you can do almost everything covered under Tech Manual and Wars of Reaving. You can create a proto (bipedal, quad or glider, weight range 2-15 tons). Jumpjets working, armor is working, as is some of the equipment from Tech Manual.
Outputting the Proto to a text file works.
Outputting a record sheet is about 1/3rd done.
C-bill is autocalclulated.

BV is not implemented yet.

I'm still working on getting weapons working.

Work is almost complete.

One question: In Wars of Reaving, protomechs have a new Electrostatic discharge armor introduced.

How is it handled? Does it replace normal armor outright, the way Ferro Fibres does?

Its almost finished. Almost all rules from Tech Manual, Wars of Reaving, and the Errata are added. (Other than Electrostatic discharge armor)

All thats left is getting the 'Output a record sheet you can use for a game' working, some problems with calclulating BV and cost, and one annoying bug where it wipes all the weapons from the Proto without telling you.
