Triple postin' but even the Patriots can't hold me back

I don't know what game I'm watching, but it's not the same one I flipped to a couple hours ago.

Well, so much for all those NFL talking heads who thought the Pats were going to go undefeated. As a Broncos fan, I'm both happy that the Pats lost and sad that the Chiefs won. KC did look pretty good tonight, though.

Well, Jets at Bills - which many derided as the worst game of the week (and up 'till last night, rightly so!) - now becomes a battle for sole possession of the lead of the AFC East!   :o

Sometimes the NFL can be truly awesome. This is one of those times.

If the Jets and Bills tie, do the Dolphins end up in 1st place without even playing a game?

A tie would technically be .500. Having not yet played a game would be .000.

Yup. If the Jets and Bills tie, the Dolphins end up in last place without even playing a game. ;)

And the Bills are in first place of the AFC East, will wonders never cease.

Most amusing (to me) stat out of Sundays games is that Ben Roethlisberger now has more wins in Cleveland than any Browns QB since 1999.

What shocked was the Rams scoring 46 points and the Jags getting 10 sacks

Don't take this wrong, but... I read this post, I didn't believe it could possibly be true, so I went looking.

Ben Roethlisberger: 11 wins in Cleveland.

Derek Anderson: 10 wins in Cleveland.

...holy shit. That blows my mind. I mean it makes sense the more I think about it- as often as they go through QBs before giving up and moving on to the next retread failure, no one has time to really gain many wins in a Browns uniform. But... that the highest number was 10, that is just magnificent. The sheer scale of systemic, two-decade-old failure is summed up perfectly by this one stat.

(Now, that said, I also was impressed with the Browns yesterday- they lost, but they sure gave the Steelers a tougher day than I figured they would. Maybe there's hope?)

It boggles my mind that there are four different AFC teams that could all reasonably compete for the title of worst in the NFL.

And none of them are in the West. ;)

That looks fun. I'll join in. Winners in bold.

KC @ NE
AZN @ DET
ATL @ CHI
BAL @ CIN
NYJ @ BUF
OAK @ TEN
PHI @ WAS
PIT @ CLE
TB @ MIA (IRMA U SUK)
IND @ LAR
CAR @ SF
SEA @ GB
NYG @ DAL
NO @ MIN
LAC @ DEN

10-4 for the weekend. Not too shabby overall, though the Giants and Bengals picks were sure duds. Washington got hosed by the refs at the end of their game... and while I definitely picked Thursday wrong I'm willing to bet most of the country did as well. I'll take 10-4 happily. (Not picking on next week until we hear whether Jacksonville will be able to host their game or not)

If only Elway would have opened up his wallet a bit for Tony Romo....

More 'if only Jerry Jones hadn't dicked everyone around instead of following through on his promise of releasing the guy'. But yeah, definitely would have made today's game more entertaining.

By the way, most of the country will get to see Denver and Dallas at 4:30 EST on Fox. Me? Nope. No, I have the showdown between Washington and the Rams.

I CAN FEEL YOUR ENVY THROUGH MY SCREEEEEEEEN.

Chiefs play Eagles today, and despite the mountain of past evidence and common sense that Alex Smith won't be able to repeat a performance like last week I'm still absolutely looking forward to watching it happen.

The Chiefs had better not make it a habit to keep games close until midway into the 4th quarter.  Still, I'm encouraged that we still won against a team that got the lion's share of the lucky bounces in that game.

Seattle seems to have similar problems.

Carson and Wilson basically won that game today for them by wearing down San Francisco's defense.

And the Cowboys are not the team that the experts thought they were. Zeke got 8 yards rushing against one of the worst run defenses in football. Siemian was on fire in the first half.

I'd have picked them anyways.   :P

After how badly I embarrassed myself last week, I was hesitant to make picks this week and waited 'till the last minute before deciding "the Hell with it" .

Even if I blow tonight's game, I've improved significantly.

Shocker of the week: What the Hell happened to Dallas?

The obvious answer is 'The Denver defense', but there IS more to it than that. It's hard to believe that the always-dominant Dallas running game was as meek as it was- eight yards (8!!!) for Ezekiel Elliott! TOM BRADY had nine on the day, and he's a 40-year-old non-mobile QB! But that can't be blamed solely on Von Miller and his band of orange-clad lunatics- a lot of it, sure, but Elliott also didn't GET the ball often. Part of that, of course, is having to rely on the passing game more when you're behind in the second half, but there never was a strong feeling that the Cowboys were going to use their best weapon, even early.

Very weird game, all around. VERY pleased with the results, mind you, but weird game. If you'd told me the first QB in five years to hang four TDs on Dallas was Trevor Freaking Siemian, I wouldn't have believed you. Here we are.

Dallas also ran out of cornerbacks and the defense just couldn't hold up. Like Zeek I quit on my team, though at least I lasted midway through the 3rd Quarter.

It's amazing that the loss of one player can take a team that was predicted to be a Super Bowl contender to 0-2. Last week they lose to the Cowboys, who proved yesterday that they aren't all that. Tonight they lost to the Lions, who are the freaking Lions!
