Lyran Mech suggestions - Jihad Era
« on: 05 September 2013, 22:03:48 »
Hey all, I have some of the iconic Steiner mechs, now I'm looking at picking up some more for some upcoming Jihad themed games.  Is there anything during that time I should pick up that is distinctly Lyran?  All suggestions welcome!

I think this is a case where the MUL may be helpful, but only to a degree: http://www.masterunitlist.info/Era/FactionEraDetails?EraId=14&FactionId=32

There you'll get everything Lyran, but not 'general'. It does not make the distinction between what is seen as being typically Lyran versus what they just have access to. So I'll throw some suggestions in. I don't know where your iconic 'Mechs stop, which may make some of these duplicates of what you've already picked up.

Fafnir - 100 tonner from 3067. 2x HGR. That's all you need to know.
Battle Hawk - 35 tons from 3055; a slower light, good for supporting heavier units.
Barghest - 70 ton quad from 3060. Every variant packs a BFG.
Goliath - 80 ton quad from Project Phoenix. Two solid Lyran variants.
Bushwacker - 55 tons, from 3058.
Razorback - 30 tons, from 3067. Decent light, the variant is nasty.
Blitzkrieg - 50 tons from 3060. Hunchback on speed.
Talon - 35 tons from 3058. Combines a Locust and a Panther...
Wolfhound - 35 tons from 3050. Tough, go-to light.
Nightsky - 50 tons from 3055. Yeah, it's got an axe.
Axman - 65 tons from 3050. Bigger axe.
Defiance - 75 tons from 3075. Warhammer-Marauder cross-breed.
Salamander - 80 tons from 3055. Archer's big brother.
Hauptmann - 95 ton omni from 3060. When you need a brick...
Berzerker - 100 tons, from 3055. Even bigger axe.

I'd suggest one addendum to that list:

Thunderbolt TDR-17S.    According to the MUL, only the Lyrans field it.  It's an energy-boat zombie with TSM, capable of taking a lot of fire, then running up and face-punching your enemy.

hey guys, I appreciate all the suggestions, they've been awesome.  I wanted to purchase a handful of mechs to add to my collection and I wanted to go Lyran as best I could.  I ended up going with:

Barghest BGS-4T
Defiance DFN-3S
Eisenfaust EFT-7X
Ghost GST-10
Revenant UBM-1A

I'll keep all the suggestions you guys made going forward as well so I can grow my collection.

So, can someone Please tell me the Source for this variant?   ???   I've tried a Search for it here, but the only result that showed the full Stats was for an Unofficial version in a "Design Challenge" Thread.  The few other references talk about it, but none indicate the Source for the Official Stats.  :(  It's been my Favorite 'Mech since I started playing back in '86, and I currently have 48 minis, counting the various Official Unseen/Reseen sculpts, and Fan-Made sculpts.   O0
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

It's in the T-bolt 11SE article on Battlecorps here: http://www.battlecorps.com/BC2/news.html?article=439
Interesting that the fluff has the Lyran variant using MASC.

It's also mentioned in the MotW article on the T-bolt; here the article mentions the 17S as carrying MASC, not TSM:
http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=25483.0

However, you can find it in RS3085U-PP, in which it has TSM, and the Master Unit List also goes with TSM.

Personally, I prefer TSM on this 'mech; we've already got a Thunderbolt with MASC.

I think we have a question for the authors brewing here.

(The T-bolt is also my favorite Inner Sphere 'mech--perfect design, so many good variants).

Thanks!   O0  I've actually got that PDF, but I haven't actually Looked through it.  :-[  I've discovered the -60-RLA in there also, along with the -10SE and -11SE!  What's not to love about PPCs and Targeting Computers?  >:D   I'm like you, so many Great variants out there.  I prefer dropping the MGs and their ammo, but I did Plenty of damage with them in my -5S back when I was in a MW RPG campaign.   }:)

Thanks again!  O0

Afaik the -17S as well as the -60RLA were part of the 'Project Phoenix Update Record Sheets'. No fluff in there, so no exact data about its whereabouts. They reemerged with the RS 3085 Unabridged - Project Phoenix as well as the first fluff mention coming with the TRO 3085.
