Fan Funding 2022 Update
« on: 28 March 2022, 22:19:07 »
I just wanted to give a general update for Fan Funding in 2022. We will have a pause on new Fan Funding for a few more months this year. There are several reason for this, such as a few items from the backlog still need to be released (these will be up soon), kind of full new BT item in the pipeline for the year with a few items that would be web only variant, and a new factor increasing cost of materials. As with many things in the last few years, the cost of molds have increase dramatically along with metal prices. Some of the costs for having items produced via Fan Funding will have to be adjusted to incorporate more funds to go towards the printing of part (I have been adding already) put extra for the molds and molding time. Because of these changes, we may end up doing fewer Fan Funding products / spread them out more. I will also have to be more mindful of what some variants will take to be done, if its just a pair of arms, that is easy. But when we go with arms, toros body, and another parts that is when we add even more molding costs to the equation.

The Gossamer and Celerity will still be the first units that Fan Funding will tackle later this year. I have already talked to who would do the sculpting for each so I can start to work what the Fan Funding project goal for each will be.

Below is the pending Fan Funding items to be released

BT-460   Saxon APC Standard / Laser / HQ
BT-461      Cuchulainn Support Armor (Standard)

It is what it is. Sadly life's costs just keep on increasing but IWM's rolls with the punches and brings us a quality product. And we appreciate it.

I'm pretty certain I'm especially interested in that particular list. As are all the Aerospace interested personages on the forum!

I'm happy for the fan funding option but it still kills me that we get "variants" before we have all the units w/o minis done.
/cries a little each time I think of the Ferret Light Scout V-Tol from TRO:3026, circa 1987

Those variants change out a arm (or two) or a turret rather than being a completely new mini.

I would rather have a Kruger or Ogre BA than a non-combat VTOL.

But would you rather have a Kruger or Ogre over a Ferret? That's the current discussion. :)

I on the other hand, have never even heard of the first & the 2nd was a Dark Age/Republic Era unit IIRC so limited timeline usage, v/s a Vtol I've been using proxies for for 35 years to spot for fire support to vaporize things.

I'm sticking w/ my Ferret love here :)

Most of the Ferrets are non-combat or their use is TW incompatible, so the 1 with a MG? with a1t cargo space for squads?

So yeah, I would rather have the Kruger or Ogre . . . and since IWM knows their VTOL vs vehicle or BA sales numbers, it would probably by why its not rolled out.  We are never going to get everything in the BTU, so I am not surprised we do not get things that are niche/filler/backstory.

Seriously, how many VTOLs have you bought from IWM compared to vehicles or BA?  I know for myself I have bought 1 in orders compared to 10+ vehs and 15+ BA when ordering directly.

Off the top of my head..........
Karnov x2
Sprint x1
Mantis  (2-Pack?)
Cavalry (2-Pack?)
YellowJacket x1
Donar x1

v/s Battle Armor?
A Pack of GDL Armor back in the 90's IIRC
Then a few single online-only orders for things that MWDA didn't have in plastic.
1each =   Grenadier, Sloth, Taranis?

And to be honest, this is part of why I have not bought VTOLs . . . since I have MWDA ones, but I did the same as you over the BA just more.  And I might have a regiment worth of Cavaliers b/c of MWDA too.

While what I said was rhetorical, the point was that VTOL sales are probably below those two items- though higher than Proto sales!

Kruger Scout Car?? No such thing on the mul. Did find a Kruger Combat Car, but not from Age of War. 2620 would be after the Reunification War. Was there mention in TRO 3150 about the Scout Car? I like playing from 2350+ from time to time so any reference to a vehicle I can create a RS for from that time is always good.

Eh, it is a scout, but yeah, combat car.  I knew the original was also all std tech.

I have certainly bought at least 15-20 times as many ground vehicles as VTOLS. For battlearmor... are we counting bases or troopers? They win either way, but the margin isn't that big if we go base vs. VTOL.

I'd still rather get my mitts on the Ferret if I have to choose.

Note that I am responding to what I would like to buy and paint. I am not taking a stand on what would sell or be generally popular. The answer there is almost certainly to drop the whole debate and fund Thunderbolt variant #73.

Besides, I’d argue that dropping infantry in a tactically critical position is a combat role.

I would prefer the Ferret. That's the era I like and am more likely to use it than the others. But that's me. If we decide not to, I have a pile of metal that still needs to be painted anyway.
