They're probably designed to survive fighter strikes.  I doubt a 'Mech is going to present any more challenge there although it might be interesting.

This is where reading pg 120 of SO is helpful. Note the ability to target systems, and no to hit roles for max damage. While Mechs in space are of limited usefullness, once on the hull of a larger ship they can be very dangerous. Like 10m fleas.
