Might depend on the time . . . end of the FCCW the Sharks are selling along the DC/FS border, and I always took it coming in from the periphery.  Besides, it was a working formula- Avanti's Angels ended up in the Periphery with their pair of mixed heavies in '59?  If you can find someone willing to pay your price it should give you a edge over local forces.

It's a little bit of a different situation than either of those. The sharks were coming in from the wrong border (coreward instead of rimward), and the Angels started on the clan border and recovered their clan tech in the time honored fashion.

The Hilltoppers basically started in the periphery (more or less) and worked their way into the Inner Sphere. They got the Turkina by blind dumb luck (a guy with no history just happened to have one and wanted to join no questions asked). They captured the elementals in their one engagement with the clans (the Ghost Bears). No explanation where they got the parts for the Chief's Nightstar* or where they got the Warhawk.

*The Nightstar itself is another thing that bugs me, since it was what he was driving when they left the periphery. Where do you find that kind of hardware in the New Colony Region?

Keep in mind that I'm not pronouncing judgement or anything like that. It's more of just a taste thing. I don't care for their fancy pants.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

I'll probably have a bit more to say once I have a chance to read through it in more depth, but my thoughts at the moment: I was fairly thrilled to see the St. Ives conflict get a mention (I'll take what I can get, at this point), and I appreciated that it wasn't the usual white knight (ivory, in the case of St. Ives?) situation between the Hilltoppers and the SIMC liaison officer.  The aftermath of this period was a bit too serendipitous for me, but then isn't life sometimes?

I was also very happy about the inclusion of so much Alpha Strike materiel.

EDIT: I have to confess, I was just a bit disappointed that the real coverage applies after the St. Ives Conflict. Not a deal-breaker, I can still make use of things, and I enjoy the content.

Is there a paint scheme for them?  I honestly really like the quartered pattern for the .gifs in MM- two color (Red, Blue and . . . Yellow?) quarters and two black quarters.  Its sharp & clean, I was just hoping it came off the description of the unit.
They describe the paint scheme in the description of the unit.

This one quite unique as other Spotlights have been. It's like individual Field Manuel Merc entries in their own book. I like detail they put into it.
This one comes with cool record sheet for a custom Nightstar variant too.

Anyone notice that there two different covers for Turning Points: Orbisonia?

One has the Capellan Doa Sword in hand of a man, other has a Mech holding the sword.

Orbisonia was a cool product the ambition of House Liao and it's consequences

As for Holts Hilltopers they are some unit while oversuccessful is one way of looking at it (huge transport assets, sweet Nightstar and Elementals) they've also got a couple of cool points like the clan bondsmen wanting to take the unit name as their own or the unit essentially moving beyond your traditional military unit/enrolment to a tribe/family mentality

Look forward to reading some of that tonight.  With it being a world that has had fiction (I think) and events taking place on planet, I have to wonder if it will be a bit thicker than some of the others.
