This cant be a coincidence...
« on: 30 March 2011, 11:26:32 »
I was surfing Sarna, like usual, checking out the industrial mechs. and I came across something hilarious.

an unassuming Hauler mech called Buster....  made by the Bluth corporation....

Buster Bluth

Arrested Development reference anyone???   ROFL ;D

Quote
The introduction of the Powerman family forced the Buster from the number one sales spot. The lawsuits between Bluth Corporation and Sitwell Corporation (the Powerman's producer) alleging industrial espionage, trade secret infringement, and other various charges eventually destroyed Bluth Corporation. The Buster remains in production around the Inner Sphere.

Not to mention that the Sitwell corporation was a rival to the Bluth's in Arrested Development as well.   [rockon]

I also think that Tobias Funke was a pilot in one of the historical rosters of Sorenson's Sabres in the Sword and Dragon Starterbook, I just have to get home to confirm the information.

Bah.  The DemolitionMech from TRO3075 is the Wesley Industries SN1-P3S model.  Beat that!

Nope.

It's built to crush things and it's made by the Wesley Corp.

Think about it...

Wesley Crusher of Star Trek Fame, whose character crushed my intellect on occasion.

Can it be a double reference then?

SN1-P3S is too much of a coincidence to me.  For 'leet speak' and character substitution in computers (for example passwords), the letter i is often switched for 1, and e is swapped for 3.

Which gives you "SNI-PES", or Snipes, as Jal said above.

It has to be at least a Wesley Snipes, Demolition Man reference at least.  I think the Star Trek reference is a bit of a stretch- but they may have thrown that in too.

Wow, a well done reference. I dig it.

For a poorly done reference, see Allison's Chain.  ,,,/sigh

Has anyone bothered to compile these old pop references?

Isn't one of the clan WarShips named after Ted of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure?

There are a lot of them.

There's a drawing of Mancow hidden in one of the books...  I own it but I can't think of what book it is.

Haven't we moved beyond this? My own personal regiment has all but one of it's pop culture references expunged, and if the Eighth Crucis Lancers fail to survive the Jihad, I can die a happy man.

Heh, good old Grand Titan.  If you haven't seen it yet go into TRO 3055U and take a close look at the Grand Titan's left upper arm. :D

What, is it pictured with a deployed, trailer-based MFB?
