What's in your box?
« on: 23 July 2019, 10:20:17 »
So with Gencon coming up, I've been working on turning my AGoAC box into a general purpose Travel Edition Battletech. I mean, it's practically there already, but the idea was to add some extra things to really turn things up to eleven, for all manner of pickup games. Here's what I've added, or plan to:

Modified the plastic tray so that it will also hold the two Beginner Box minis(removed the section that held the cards and dice, those will just be loose in the box).
Also from the Beginner Box are the pilot cards, mapsheet, hex tiles, and dice.
Map Set Grasslands.
Replaced the record sheets with new ones printed from the free pdf, with a 3050 variant on the back of each.
A handful of modifier dice.
A couple mechanical pencils.

If there's room, I'd also like to toss in the Alpha Strike cards, a printout of the AS QSR, and a flexible tape.

I'm also keeping the universe primer and novellas, in case i draw someone's attention and want to introduce them to the lore. This will be the first stuff removed if I need the room, though.

Has anyone else done this, and what's in your box?

Small Box Of Doom?  I use a 6-box roller, which covers SRM6s and LRM20s and the average LB-10X.

I've never had any but the very largest cluster weapons slow down a game, so no real need for one of those. Closest I can think of in this box are some of the upgunned Commando variants, or the Catapult-K5 that is one of the upgrade sheets. If those become an issue, I've got a hit locations/clusters app on my phone.

I assume "flexible tape" is a measuring tape. If so you might want to consider a tailor's tape. My local hardware store has a package of three for a dollar, they're 5 feet long and they roll up to be less than 1.5" in diameter.
Be the Loremaster:

Battletech transport rules take a very feline approach to moving troops in a combat zone: If they fits, they ships.

I don't know if mine is specifically a tailor's tape, but it is more or less the same thing. I've had it for a while, using it for the few hexless games I play like CAV or Naval Command.

People have said that dry erase markers will work on the fancy AS cards and clean right off, yes?

Not really, we needed some isopropyl alcohol to clean ours off, I've heard white board cleaner works too, but after dry erase sits on them a few minutes it won't wipe off with just water

That's concerning. What does work on the cards?

i always use rubbing alcohol. i also don't directly write on my cards - i get the clear card sleeves. when one wears out or the marker won't come off, just toss it.

Got anything that doesn't require sleeves? I'm leaving for the con in just a few days, and won't have time to get any sleeves. Or alcohol.

Wet Erase might work, I think?  I haven't used the AS cards myself yet.  I just hoard all of them from the AS Lance Packs. (And soon the Kickstarters!)

I'm not sure wet-erase would be the best solution for AS cards -- it would probably wreck the cards over time.

Shaving cream will get the ink off, but presents its own issues.  You should be able to find card sleeves at a con and the alcohol pretty much anywhere.
