  • Unofficial, sure. But better than nothing, right?
This WarShip is only to be found in my AU, which you can find at

. This design was first posted on these forums back in 2011 or thereabouts and I saved a copy of it then. That's just as well, because I think it waa subsequently lost in the last forum crash. It was posted by Khymerion and was the winning entry in a competition started by Minemech to design a new Block III version of the Zechetinu. The fluff below is based on Minemech's posted guidelines for what entries had to include and exclude and the fluff Khymerion included with his winning entry. All credit for the fluff and the design itself belongs to them and none of it belongs to me.

Code: [Select]
During the era of the Clan Invasion and the Blakist War, the Zechetinu-class corvette was the Free
Worlds League's WarShip of choice when it came to system patrols and harassing enemy supply ships. They were
very effective against DropShips of that era and AeroSpace Fighter swarms, but were later threatened by a new
generation of DropShips nicknamed Pocket WarShips. These were DropShips that used sub-capital level
weaponry in what quantities they could carry, making them deadly to then-current DropShips and a threat to
WarShips used as picket ships. Decades on from the end of that era and the accompanying breakup of the FWL,
the Zechetinu in particular was still deemed to be the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth's weakest link in this still-
ongoing naval arms race.
In an attempt to keep the Zechetinu active, Ilium Shipyards of Ionus were directed to work with the top
engineers in the MSC to redesign it in such a way as to keep it active in the future. They were to make it able to
compete in the current era using such methods as they thought would most benefit the Commonwealth.
Changing the mission of the ship was a radical option that would have required a restructuring of what little in
the way of a Navy the MSC still possessed, so a more effective patrol ship was the preferred option. The
Zechetinu was also an investment which would have reflected poorly on the Captain-General if shown to be a
failure.
As it was felt that a Block III WarShip should carry on many of the major hull elements of the preceding
Blocks, this Block III of the Zechetinu is meant to serve as a screening vessel for heavy fleet carriers.
Regrettably, the tonnage allocated to the required stores and the existing autocannons precluded even modest
additions to the naval guns.
As requested by the MSC Navy, the corvette had its expensive L-F battery removed. Though this does reduce
the strategic mobility of the WarShip, the saved tonnage does allow it to carry a good deal more defensive
weaponry to help it screen itself from Fighters, especially if it is allowed to operate in close proximity to sister
ships or the carrier proper. In close concert together, the volume of defensive fire potentially being thrown up
can be withering and even protect a command ship from errant capital missile strikes.
While the total number of heat sinks carried was reduced, the fact that the ship should not be surrounded
often would allow it to conserve and properly utilize its coolant system and fire its laser anti-missile system batteries at will. The LAMS was only chosen over its ballistic counterpart because of a lack of free tonnage available to enable it to carry proper quantities of ammunition for the latter.

Ever felt that The Powers That Were at FASA, WizKids and FanPro never gave Victor Steiner-Davion and the Federated Commonwealth a fair shake in the canon timeline? Then you might be interested in my Victor Victorious AU at

To whomever it may concern:

Please accept my abject apologies for my dog's arse of a first attempt at posting this!

I've never tried to post something as code before, and I doubt I'll ever try to do it again. To make things worse, I typed it out and then posted it in a real hurry without checking it over first, because I was trying to squeeze it in before a bunch of other stuff I had to get done as well.

I will not be so slapdash again!

By all means, please continue to post stats as code... the columns won't line up right otherwise.
