All the rediscovered finds are great. But some are too high quality for a Succession Wars-era March Militia, IMO. I’d do a company of Capellan March Militia using the lower-quality designs that have FedRat variants and Cappie heritage, like this:
Command/Battle Lance
Rifleman -3C <— FedRat variant with dual AC/10s and more armor
Enforcer -4R <— Enforcers just scream March Militia, classic FedRat
Enforcer -4R or Crossbow -6C <— variant with AC/10 and armor in place of LRMs, old
Vindicator -1R or -1SIC <— salvaged from Cappies
Fire/Support Lance
Jagermech-A <— FedRat variant with LRMs and armor in place of AC/5s
Catapult -C1 <— salvaged from Cappies
Blackjack -1 <— Blackjacks just scream March Militia, classic FedRat
Blackjack -1 or Crossbow -6B <— original with LRMs and PPC, old
Recon/Scout Lance
Vulcan -5T <— FedRat variant with medium lasers and armor in place of AC/2
Valkyrie -QA <— classic FedRat
Wasp -1D <— FedRat variant with flamer and small lasers in place of SRM-2
Wasp -1D <— FedRat variant with flamer and small lasers in place of SRM-2
To me, this company has that gritty, cast-off garrison feel, especially a FedRat militia on the Cappie border. No assaults or high-end heavies above 65 toms, no high-performing members of the 55-ton trio, lots of hold-the-line designs like Enforcers and Blackjacks, a salvaged Vindi and Pult from over the border, and an ancient Crossbow.
But it also surprises with FedRat variants and designs (Rifleman, Jagermech, Vulcan, Wasps), concentrated firepower, and extra armor. The command lance can hole punch at range with four to five AC/10 & PPC shots and two to three Large Laser shots per turn. The fire lance throws 60-80 LRMs and four to six AC/2 rounds per turn at range and a meat grinding eight to 12 medium lasers up close. The Rifleman, Jagermech, Crossbow -6C, and Vulcan all unexpectedly carry thicker armor.
It’s a hardscrabble company that will surprise, but not overwhelm, which is what a militia unit should be/do.
I’d save all the good stuff — the Battlemasters, Longbow, Marauders, Warhammers, Tbolt, Crusaders, P-Hawk, etc. — for a couple frontline companies. Davion Guards, Avalon Hussars, etc. (I’m partial to the Ceti Hussars myself.)
Those frontline companies could also be Elsie (add the Griffins, Wolfhound, and Commando) or Leaguer (add the Goliath, Wolverine, and Hunchback). They could also be Snake with the right -K variants.
Maybe start a new thread for those frontline companies.
My 2 cents. YMMV. Hope it helps.
