Aerospace Combat / Re: FC Naval Command Decision
« Last post by Colt Ward on Today at 11:16:04 »
The Federated Commonwealth avoided turbulence when a hairbrained scheme by Katherine backfired at a young age. It is now 3063 and you are involved in the decision-making process of the navy and have been tasked to determine how to handle the issue of the Fox Corvette. She is a brick, but is armed with popguns, lacks combat thrust, and seems an overly expensive Jolly Rogers. Worse, she drains resources by demanding the production of the Overlord A-3. The consensus is that whatever happens, it will likely either remain a light warship or a transport Jumpship of some variety. The Overlord A-3 will also likely remain in production. How would you handle this?

At this time the Free Worlds League navy is strong, and the Invading Clans have formed a united naval command, similar to the homeworld defense fleet to counterbalance the growing Inner Sphere threat. Furthermore, the Combine finally learned how to make Battleships work and Theodore is growing distant due to internal politics.

Regardless of your choice, those ships active in service will remain so.

Skipping for now what was previously run out . . . I think the OP forgot something that would be critical to their theorizing.

The FedCom was in the process of producing (granted late design stage) the Mjolnir light cruiser when Katherine missed her date with a steep staircase.  Now, the design DID bloat (cue Lyran assault mech meme) as the new LAAF (cue laugh track) realized they would need something comparable to the Avalon class cruiser.

For a Mjolnir light cruiser fitting between the Fox and the Avalon, the question becomes . . . which weapons were tacked on to make it a 'battlecruiser' and was ASF/DS capacity added as the ship got larger?  IMO the DS capacity might still have aligned with the original plans since the Avalon had 6 as a major combatant and the Mjolnir would have been smaller.  It would have also been easier/faster to 'stretch' the design by adding decks than to engineer in new DS collar/facilities.

Off Topic / Re: So.....GASLANDS!
« Last post by Weirdo on Today at 11:15:33 »
My local group LOVES Gaslands, the uncontrolled chaos is huge fun! A few things I've learned:

There is always a massive pileup at the starting line, ALWAYS. This is a feature, not a bug, as it helps get players into the correct mindset for the game.

Wiping out is a question of "when", not "if". You can delay wiping out with cautious driving and lucky dice, but it's legally impossible to avoid it entirely. So don't worry, just roll with it(ideally over an enemy).

The feel of the game can be best expressed by telling you that the rulebook includes The Rule of Carnage: If you're ever unsure of how to interpret a rule, you're *required* to use the interpretation that inflicts the most damage to everyone.

The lore is hilarious.

I placed my order last week and it still says unfulfilled.  Konda odd, considering how fast everyone else is getting the thier CGL store orders.

You might contact them, I got mine yesterday when I ordered last Friday evening.

The Orion is mocking many of my half painted mechs . . .

Standard underwater rules do mean Mechs are already dissipating 6 more heat than normal.

The trouble for Submarines comes from the extant LRTs, which produce no heat at all.

And with ANY damage causing a breach check the lack of concentrated damage is less of a concern.

Which makes a concept like this interesting but hard to figure out a good balance for.

Fan Fiction / Re: Black Water

Means I like your stuff and I'm paying attention. it's derived from that scene in "Hunt for Red October" in which Sean Connery says "one ping, only." kind of a cultural thing...

Don't we usually use ''TAGged'' for this purpose?

I am putting everything together to host a large game- 63k including pilot adjustments.  What I want to do is a set up a large urban fight from IlClan that would be part of the Clan invasions.  This would sort of be a break-through scenario, I am leaving artillery, VTOLs, and infantry out of it to keep it simpler for the rules.  I will provide some player aides to help speed up fires, like multi dice roll boxes and laminated target dec sheets w/GATOR.  The defenders are one of the 'militia' units stationed in the city redoubts.  I have terrain that I am finishing and using this to drive more mechs to be painted- the attackers & defenders will not all look the same but they will be painted, lol.

I want to give whoever takes up the challenge some options in force building but like I said, provide everything- so I came up with this.  They are going to get a core force of about 14k BV.  It is going to be mixed and based on what minis I have, I want to make it as "Republic Armed Forces" flavor as possible.  THEN come the options, this lets players tailor their force mix to their style and what they like/want to run.  Each optional package is balanced around 7k and to get the remaining 49k BV they get to pick 7 packages- again trying for RAF flavor.

Core Package-     14004
Lament 3R         4/4   2077
Hunchback 7R         2/4   1922
Argus 4D                 2/3   2752

Purifier/RAF (PPC)      3/5   275
Ogre BA (Std)         2/4   428

Fan Fiction / Re: Opalescent Reflections
« Last post by PsihoKekec on Today at 10:55:03 »
Ace sure is Ace of Khans now. And the scene with elemental jumping out of control tower, right before it is destroyed deserves to find itself in the action holovid.

Damn, I liked Minoru here, out of all POV characters I didn't expect him to die (also Ace and Wei). Caught completely off guard as he was, he didn't let himself be overwhelmed and denied his enemies the victory.
Black Dragons messed up doubly, first because they tried, second because they failed so thoroughly. Minoru's death and the manner of it, will turn those who are not directly connected to BDS, but were inclined to support them, against them. Franklin has carte blanche to dig after the real and supposed BDS member down to the proverbial bedrock and hammer down their base of support with reforms. However in the short and medium turn this will hurt the DC immensely, giving the Sharks and the Bears time to prepare for prolonged stay.
The question is how hard resistance will the BDS offer, they killed Otomo and Ryuken, taking over their equipment plus the regiments they control, but once the news is out that the Coordinator and his wife committed honourable suicide, rather than being taken alive, they should now that they lost, even if they pick up a cadet branch Kurita as a pretender. So will they fight to die with some honour, or will they still try to somehow win this?
