Neutrino Detectors?
« on: 04 August 2024, 19:56:32 »
Neutrino Detectors first got a description and rules in the Explorer Corps sourcebook, as well as some mentions in novels (mostly about how to hide from them).

Despite being mentioned in the fluff presented in Strategic Operations (mentioning both fixed installations and portable systems), the rules for Neutrino Detectors never got updated either in Strategic Operations, Tactical Operations, or Interstellar Operations. Was this an oversight or a deliberate choice?
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Deliberate. As I recall, neutrino detector were brought up during StratOps' sensor section writing, but viewed as too omniscient and eliminated any stealth.

Well I can certainly see where that conclusion came from.

Though it begs the question, how should we regard the fluff references to the system, particularly since that fluff made it into strategic operations? Canon? Canon rumor? Pretend we didn't say any of this?

They're canon, they just lack rules for normal gameplay or vehicle design. They're plot devices.
