Did you get the Precentor Martial Edition?
« on: 10 September 2024, 20:07:15 »
I'm curious as to how many backers bought it. $200 is steep price, even for die-hard fans and so far I've only seen one backer physically show it off, briefly. I have read comments from several backers who received it in their fulfillment. They were disappointed. Not in the Universe book, but in the Precentor Martial Edition itself.

I haven't seen a single copy delivered yet. I thought there were delivery problems or something. Where did you find the reviews? As a German, I'll probably have to wait quite a while for my copy. Well, I'm patient.

No for varies reasons I didn't.  And the truth is I am going to regret not having the second book in that set.

I ordered 2 copies, which arrived in mid August. One did have some minor damage in shipping so I am waiting to hear back from QML about a replacement.

It’s in my last box that has been held up by the dreaded mystery shortage (not arano coin division). Getting an AToW limited edition was just as steep so it took most of the sting out. Looking forward to see how it turned out

No formal reviews, as far as I know. Someone uploaded a short video on Youtube, briefly showing off their copy. Other than that, it's mostly been backers sharing how they felt about the edition.

No for varies reasons I didn't.  And the truth is I am going to regret not having the second book in that set.

I believe a few copies will be available on the CGL store for a limited time at some point.

Got mine the Friday before Gen Con, so I took it and got several Autographs.  I'm Very Happy with it, though Sorry to see 2 names missing from the "Remembrance" book.  I was told both were contacted about it, and both wanted Nothing to do with it.

Was able to show the Artist that did the cutaway sections the results of his labor for the first time, as he said he hadn't seen the Finished Product before I showed him.     He did the Atlas, Demolisher, Elemental, Overlord Dropship, Visigoth Aerospace Fighter, and a Jumpship.  Said he had to figure out Where the crew of the Demolisher would be, AND was told to fill in "empty space" in the Overlord.

And because I suck at remembering names, I don't remember the Artist.  :embarrassed:  He did all the work on a computer, but hadn't actually seen the final result before I showed him.
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

Something to bear in Mind. Defending the BT IP is Frowned upon here.

They were disappointed.
Now I'm curious, as what I saw in the videos looked pretty neat. And I got excited every time the soundchip went off :cheesy:
Also: didn't get it myself, even though I considered for a good while.

I didn't get it.

$200 is a LOT for a book. Especially one that is kind of a novelty.

I'll drop a couple hundred on a rare mini or physical item that can be used
in a game but not for a book. To me it would get looked at a time or two
and then occupy shelf space somewhere.
I have some pretty rare/obscure items in my collection but the only books I
tend to keep are a few favorites and all the TROs. Stuff that has practical
in game uses.

Any word on when this edition is going to be available?  The latest CGL newsletter stated the standard edition will be out this month (already 1/2 way through), nothing about the PM edition.

I imagine any sales will be after all pledges are fulfilled (sometime around 2026), and any for sale on the website will be leftover buffer stock like the Legends I packs.

Between production minimums and planning for After Sales service Catalyst had to order more copies then where needed for the Kickstarter so a small quantity will be available from the webstore after Kickstarter fulfillment is complete.

Same.  It was cool but way too much for something that was strictly an extra.

I'd just like a standalone release of the remembrance book, that got added in too late to convince me to buy the LE.  Didn't get the regular version either since I was one of those who read into Catalyst's statements that both it and the Davion book would be released before the kickstarter meaning that they'd be available before the kickstarter and not intentionally held back because others couldn't read...

Yea I know. But it is going to suck paying $200 just because I want the one part of the whole thing

In my opinion, the Remembrance should be made available for all fans. Maybe eventually as a pdf.

Now I'm curious, as what I saw in the videos looked pretty neat. And I got excited every time the soundchip went off :cheesy:
Also: didn't get it myself, even though I considered for a good while.

Keeping in mind that they were disappointed in the Precentor Martial Edition and not the content of the BattleTech Universe book itself, which from all apparences, seems to be a phenomenal product.

They felt the Precentor edition wasn't worth $200, even with the addition of the Remembrance book. Apparently, there's no envelopes with additional content and Melissa Steiner and Hanse Davion wedding announcements as advertised. Funny enough, the Sarna Wiki and BattleTech reddit still list these as part of the Precentor Martial Edition.

Some backers feel the line "as much coolness as the manufacturer can manage manufacturer can manage" to be vague and misleading. Looking back on it, I think CGL should have just left the sentence out of that blurb.

I was tempted, but after some thought I ended up getting the regular edition instead. As others have said, $200 was just too much for the extras promised. I'd essentially get some cool extra x-ray pages, and some other fluff extras in the compartments on the front and in envelopes that I wouldn't necessarily understand since I'm just starting my journey into BattleTech lore (hence buying this book!). It also looked like a very unwieldy and giant thing to try and store somewhere based on the initial concept art.

I didn't follow the book updates (I didn't know there were any), so I wasn't aware that the Remembrance book was added later on. But after seeing the unboxing of the finished product, I'm glad I didn't purchase it because I think I would have been quite disappointed, especially since I wouldn't have known about the changes made. Instead of all the fluff materials (like the wedding invitation), it's basically just a "carbon fiber" box with a speaker, two books bound in an (admittedly neat) carbon fiber cover that matches the special Mercenaries cover, and some extra pages in the main book. That's definitely not worth the extra $150 to me.

I would be interested in the Remembrance book as a PDF at some point, though. It sounds like a very cool thing for older/established BattleTech fans in particular, and anyone interested in the behind-the-scenes in general.

All of the issues I described were with the special edition, not the Universe book itself. The book is fantastic and I haven't put it down yet.

I was back and forth about ordering it; I ultimately decided to get more minis and other stuff (dice, shirt, etc.). I'm actually glad that I did, because I would have been really disappointed to spend $200 on the final product. The Remembrance sounds really cool but that and the box are not worth $150 to me. It was priced about $100 too high, in my opinion.

It feels like a missed opportunity. In addition to The Remembrance and the box, the wedding invitation, currencies, Solaris tickets, and more could have easily elevated it from expensive and nice-to-have to a really cool expansion on the Universe book itself.

I guess I missed it, but I wonder if they explained in one of the KS Updates Why the "Extras" were left out of the final product?

I still have my "Wedding Invitation" that I got WAYYY back at Gen Con Whatever!  :smilie_happy_thumbup:

I originally went '86-'91 (missed '23, but have otherwise been going back since '11), and I think it was between '89 and '91 when FASA had the HUGE Cosplay at GC for the event!  Probably 30+ people dressed as the various House Lords and Ladies, and probably other Personalities!  Sadly, I didn't have a camera back then, so I don't have any pics, and the few pics I've been able to find online only show the damn wedding cake.     I even tried asking Jordan Weisman and I think Sam Lewis at GC several years back (Jordan was there when HBS was starting the KS for the BT PC game, can't remember Why Sam was there), but neither had any information regarding pics either.
