Our local LFGS runs Alpha Strike on the last Friday of the month (CBT/Total Warfare the other Fridays).

I've been having the idea of trying to duplicate some of the epic fights from the historical scenarios, such as Twycross, Luthien, etc.

I have copies of the old scenario books, and of course, there is the update for Tukayyid to work from, but what are some suggestions for recreating the epic battles of the like of Kado-guchi Valley in Alpha Strike format?

We usually have a group of 6-8 show up each time, if that helps with the considerations.

I think it's a great idea. I remember one of the problems I had with the old scenario packs was that so many of those fights were just too damned big to play in a single afternoon. Alpha Strike is a great way to play them out in a reasonable span of time.

One issue I ran into the one time I tried this is that standard Alpha Strike is a much more lethal system, nothing has the depth of damage that scenarios meant for regular Battletech rely upon. I strongly recommend using the optional rule where you roll to-hit for each point of damage. It'll still be much quicker than Battletech, but units will last long enough to actually try and reach their objectives.

You are indeed correct that Alpha Strike is so flat out deadly.  We already play with the Multiple Attack Rolls rule, so that won't be so difficult to get the group to play that way.

In some cases, like the high number of forces involved with the Kado-guchi Valley, we were thinking that we have several lances and stars available to pick from.  As players lose on of these, they just select from another sheet.

One consideration is what to do with Formations and SPAs.  While those units that have specific names can have their Formation rules added in, but most of those old scenario packs don't have SPAs for their pilots.  Since we don't regularly play with them, leaving them out probably wouldn't be to big of a thing.  Anyone's thoughts on that?

I wouldn't look at names, those can be all over the place. My advice would be to look at all the lances and whatnot in the scenario. If the majority of those qualify for a formation, go right ahead and call the rest Support units.
