Thank you everyone.  I'm trying to keep going and be strong for Greg's parents.  But when I'm by myself and stop keeping busy, I fall apart.

And there isn't a thing wrong with that.  Before my Mother passed, in '85, she used to remind us of two things:  "this too shall pass" and "the sun will come up tomorrow."  It isn't much but along with being there for other folks it can help a little.

Sadly me and Ems probably won't be. Due to the hassle we had getting Emma's boss to give her time off in August we've just not been able to find accommodation, at least accommodation ems was willing to enter without a can of Mace or a hazmat suit.  :D The back up plan is New York.

We had a wake tonight.  Some friends who haven't been by for years stopped over.  We sat around and told stories for about 5 hours.  Might have gone on longer, but everyone has to get up early for the trip to the funeral.

So for the uninitiated, what should I be bringing, Battletech-wise, to the con?

I've not been to a Con for many many years but if you want to stand out from the crowd, try bringing deodorant and an understanding of the concept of "personal space"

A couple days ago we went to a stage production of the Mirror Universe episode of Trek. And yet a gaming con would get me back to being single as fast as saying "but your sister let me do that to her."

Strike first. Strike hard. No mercy.

Bring dice and a pencil. Don't need any other stuff, since it is all provided at the games. As a bonus, without having to haul around all the stuff you think you should bring, you're better set to buy stuff you don't have and take it back to your room.

Wise con-goers bring snacks that fit in a backpack easily, like granola bars and such. Get a bottle of soda or water and refill it at the free water stations scattered about the con rather than go broke on $3 bottles in the con center vending machines. Bring cash for the food runs.

That's about all you really need.

I agree on the pencils, but bringing your own dice to gencon is something like bringing your own sand to the beach.
