I hope I'll be able to track you guys down at some point. I'm otherwise occupied for much of tomorrow, but I should be able to spend some time on Battletech Saturday.

Any of you lads read any good books on the Arab-Israeli wars?  I'd like to look at something new and different.

Arabs at War, by Kenneth Pollack.

Back home from GenCon and Minnesota. Man, what a week! Good to see Team Davion at my wedding, and then Geoff and MDM again at GC, as well as meeting MasterGunz and hanging with Sarcasmo.

Six Days of War, by Michael Oren, is very in depth.

If you want a "Ground Eye" view, Heights of Courage is OK.  It's written by Avigdor Kahalani, who was a Tank Battalion on the Golan in '73.

I've been looking for an English translation book that tells the story from "The Other Side" as it were, there supposed to be a really good one covering the 56 and Six Day Wars written by a Jordanian, but I can't find it.

Failing those, you can always check out:

http://www.cgsc.edu/carl/index.asp

The CARL is the US Command and General Staff College Combined Arms Library.

Click on Digital Library, which should take you here:

http://cgsc.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/

There, you'll see a listing of the Collections.  You can do a variety of searches, as an example, I searched "Israeli" and found this:

http://bit.ly/riELmg

You can add as many repositories as you want, and modify the search's as well.

A Note of warning though, some of the older documents they scanned in can be very hard to read.

I used this all the time when I was neck deep in FoW.

Question: are you still married after GenCon? I would have gone but I assumed I'd return to Portland to find myself single.

I am, although it's safe to say Melanie saw all she ever wanted to see of GenCon, and will not be returning.

I'm finally back home, where I found the tub in the guest bathroom above mine sprung a big leak. :(

GenCon was awesome though. Didn't get to spend as much time with Battletech as I might have liked due to a friend getting a bunch of Magic cards stolen, but I enjoyed meeting those I did.

I got a couple sweet deals, including the Steiner and Kurita sourcebooks for $8 each, and I also bought the original art for the TR1 Wraith and Contract with 21st Centauri Lancers cards from the CCG.

GenCon was fun but expensive. I had no idea the original paintings by Chaffee would be there. I bought four of them and will have the credit card bill to show for it later! Field Manual Mercenaries Revised and three of the cards: Panther 10k, Command Circuit and Operations Advisory Council. That I also bought an original (non-BT) painting from a different vendor before I learned of the Chaffee paintings only increased the total con cost! Yipes!

Great to meet MasterGunz and Sarcasmo, as well as great to see so many of the old faces returning once more. :)

I too am back from GenCon.

I missed 3CL and wife, but that happens.

As for the 12 hours of Clan Burrock vs. Clan Steel Viper game that I played the Vipers in, it was a decisive victory!

Steel Vipers with 139 points vs the Burrocks 62. Total stompage by the Steel Viper team guys.

And a big Congrats to Chunga for being the 2011 Dust Tactics World Champion!!!

I was wondering why the boards have been so quiet the last several days.  I'm not used to Gencon being so early in August.  Glad you all had good times.  Hoped you liberated some innocents for those of us Davvies who couldn't make it.

In other news: My local cops are awesome! (Not.)
This guy spotted the expired tag on my rear plates while traveling the other way down a curved hill at a net speed of 50mph at night.  I'm impressed.

He then performed an illegal u-turn, followed me for several blocks until I pulled over to force his hand.  Sticker expired a week ago, but enforcement doesn't begin until Sept. 1st, so he generously offered me a warning.  And then performed another illegal U-turn to head back the way he came.

My personal favorite comment: "Didn't you used to drive a Cadillac?"  Referring to Greg's vehicle, still sitting in front of my house.  With Greg's death, the BPD Greg Enforcement Squad are going to have to find some other innocent victim to make bogus charges against at random apparently.

Also Geoff, I will be by soon to steal your Panther painting! Thanks!

Nothing. The man just loves Panthers.

I suppose they might have some older Succession War-era salvage that was transferred to the interior as newer machines became available.

Finally getting back to the CBT fora after Gen Con.

Wow, what a great con!!! Frolicity, my wife, had a great time - running Leviathans demos, learning to knit socks (thanks to the kind intervention of the good Dr. Swift), and hanging out with Melanie.  I got to run 16 hours of demos and tournaments non-stop on Thursday, ran the Trial of Bloodright on Friday, played Warbirds in Miniature on Saturday, ran a dnd 3.5 dungeon crawl for an assortment of friends on Sat Night, and then played a really neat game called Airship Troopers with 3CL on Sunday Morning. I think I PLAYED more at this Con than in any other Con - at least more games other than Battletech.

Outside of watching Amanda enjoy gaming, my favorite part was definitely Saturday Night's DnD dungeon crawl. The strange combination of 3CL's pedastrous scottish cleric, Freakin_Ninja's chaotic/stupid/senseless Kobold Sorcerer, and Go For the Throat's mission oriented Dwarven Warrior, the evening was a laugh riot. The whole time, Mastergunz was sayingm, "Is DnD really this fun? I may have to get back into it!" Thanks a lot, guys, for letting me run  you through that.

One other anecdote: running the grinder on Thursday night, I started off with a damaged Penetrator 4D that had a $5 Catalyst credit bounty on its head. Despite the bounty, none of the players were coming after each other, so I started talking trash and questioning the manhood of the gamers at the table. One guy in particular took me up on the challenge, one of the players from the Trial of Bloodright earlier that day, and came after me in  his Firebee. As soon as it got in range, I vaped it with 6xMPL, and gave him his new record sheet - Hammerhands. He came at me again, and I touched off his ammo - still spouting epithets and challenges at him. So I let him pick his next upgrade, a BHK Ku that he was really excited. Meanwhile, other players finally group fire on me and someone kills my Penny, so I come back with a BRZ C3 - which I promptly point at the BHK KU. 2 rounds and a TSM Hatchet to the back later, the guy goes for his 4th 'Mech - Thunderhawk. I'm STILL mouthing off at him, charging towards him under a fullisade of Gauss. He and I duked it out for the rest of the game, taking turns knocking each other over until I finally cored him in the last round of combat. It was glorious.  [rockon]
Mastergunz: Pryde bloodline, that's where all the winners hang!
MDM: Preferably at the end of 6' of rope!!!
