I wish those were in the scrapyard!

If anyone was wondering, here's the difference in the new lasers on the gyrfalcon as well as how the wings were handled.   The torso has more rounded edges and the legs appear to be unchanged.

So far it looks like the AC2s will fit just fine on the new arms.

Given that the 4 has a one-piece wing, I'd prefer getting the 1's arms from the scrapyard and put them on the 4.

I will see about getting them added.

so .... regarding the Leviathan....

Will there be any distinguishing characteristics to differentiate between the original and the 2019 release, or did my original just get devalued this summer?

built mine yesterday and it looks great.  Only problem I had was the laser pointing up like it was some kind of energy based artillery(requires a mirror mounted to your spotter plane).  Tried modding mine to have the laser pointing forward with 'meh' results.  I guess if he leans forward a little or only fights up hill he should be fine.

The sprue in the clamshell has '2001' stamped on it, so I think it's from the original mold. That said, the clamshell does have new labeling, so that may help distinguish it.

So that means there's nothing to distinguish the original model from the Gencon, which means there's no way to confirm that an original is in fact an original. This in effect devalues ALL originals despite how rare they actually are.

Awesome.

Very awesome. It's not like anyone was going to retire or go to college off a Lev, might as well make it available to folks who actually want to play with one.

The Levithan could've VERY EASILY have been re- released in a way that didn't devalue the original in ways other than simply monetary ( the actual dollar amount of which is irrelevant). Its rarity was obviously quite intentional from the start and deliberately maintained, afterall.

And just because its not disappointing to you does not invalidate the disappointment of others.

I don’t understand.  Why is making a Leviathan mini rare a good thing?  (Or, alternatively, why is a 35th anniversary limited rerelease of the mini a bad thing?)  Is there a meaning behind the desired rarity/exclusivity?

Exclusivity is its own reward to some people.  GOTHIK mentioned 'value', too.

I think it's incredibly silly.  Oh no, more people have the same toy as you do. ::)

The popularity of collectable games speaks to the reasoning. Obviously rarity means something to some people.

I agree that there should be something on the actual miniature to distinguish it from the previous limited release. If not, what was the point of a limited release in the first place? Now it's just special packaging, not a special miniature.

To borrow a phrase, it's not just the thing, it's also the story behind the thing.  OK, yes there are others.  But this one was picked up at [convention] where I had a really good time, and was the envy of others.  Doesn't matter how many releases there are, nothing is going to take that away.

I hear you, dgorsman and while yes I agree with both you and Weirdo in his first reply to me that IT IS great that after all this time, there's been this special opportunity for others to get their hands on a highly coveted model, in your own way you actually validate the core of my point as Cache also does ...

There is a history to this model. It's not just a limited run, but something that had original significance.

Despite the fact that his post was not in support of my position, Scotty (perhaps unwittingly) even helps to validate the point for me:

Exclusivity is its own reward to some people.  GOTHIK mentioned 'value', too.

Altogether those posts fully capture exactly what I was saying. That given the history of the miniature, the exclusivity of it's procurement (e.g., a prize for participation in Trial of Retribution events in 2003), and it's extreme rarity (e.g., there were only 120 made) I believe it would be an understatement to say that mine or anyone else's disappointment that there's nothing to distinguish the original from the re-released miniature is justified. Clearly all the reasons that have been discussed so far by us as a community illustrate that this miniature holds value for reasons that are not limited to being merely monetary which cannot be diminished.

I get it.  It sucks to have something that's so rare and discover it's not so rare anymore.  I think though that there's some items that shouldn't stay exclusive or have ever been exclusive in the first place.  This is a good example.  It's clearly desired by a lot of players of the game for reasons other than its rarity.  As I understand, the only alternative is a pewter potato.

It's unfortunate that this had to happen with a warship.  There's not really a lot of ways they could have created a new sculpt that would be distinguishable from the original.  Had this been a mech at least they could have given the new model a different pose.  Also, a mech would probably been easier to justify the cost of creating an all new mold.

While i'm happy that the transport version - btw. one of the best looking BT warship minis at all - is now available in low numbers. I also see the trouble for collectors that were lucky enough to have one of the original run.
A different looking new sculpt of the transport version would be an option to match both goals, but would cause costs on the side of IWM with a low profit expectation.

That said i think there is an issue with the new release. It seems all of them only have 3 thrusters in it, but should have 4.

That is my fault and once Mike is back going to get things figured out so we can send the fourth one out to people. I had looked up pictures before we packed them and the angles it looked like 3 not 4.
