Marauder Battle Armor and Mag Clamps
« on: 16 August 2018, 23:48:28 »
After Shattered Fortress, I've been thinking of doing up a few squads of the Marauder in FWL purple.

And then I noticed the Marauder has Mag Clamps. How would that work visually? I see no real position where the Marauder could conveniently attach to a 'Mech as mechanised BA.

So short of having a Grand Titan saunter around with a squad of Marauders perched on it's broad shoulders like a squwarking mass of angry parrots indiscriminately calling down arty strikes, how do they mech up?

IIRC, they are supposed to attach to the front and back side torso's, regardless of the method (omni or magclamps), with 5 and 6 man teams adding the back and front center torso accordingly.

magclamp suits usually have the clamps on the front torso and knees of the suit (see the Fa-Shih), suggesting they'd normally hang like limpets off the mech. the marauder BA however doesn't show that, which suggests to me that maybe the clamps are on the back of the suit (and given its lack of hands for climbing, perhaps include some sort of winch system to left it up?)

There are some square, vertically-lined patches on the Marauder’s knees and center torso that I think are meant to be the magnets.

I think there's hints of similar panels under the elbows as well. I imagine Marauders as doing the equivalent of low-crawling *up* the mech, and until you get used to it, the process probably looks hilarious.

I think you meant those, right?

To properly demonstrate the concept, you do need to place the Marauder battle armor clamped onto a Marauder battlemech so that everyone can clearly have their positioning illustrated.

Nature Documentary: "Being marsupial, the Marauder carries its young in a pouch beneath the central torso for the first few months of life.  These infant Mauraders will remain with their mother until such time as their armor hardens and weapons mature, and will then leave the pouch.  Lacking jump jets or the speed of the adult, many matured Marauder toddlers will choose to cling to their parents sides while on the move."

Yes, precisely (Though I hadn't noticed the one on the elbow.  I think someone else pointed it out.).

Yes, precisely (Though I hadn't noticed the one on the elbow.  I think someone else pointed it out.).

That sort of makes sense, though the angle of the plate on the 'nose' of the Marauder is going to make it extremely awkward 'Meching up.
As Weirdo pointed out, the whole process is likely to look incredibly ungainly.

Also, I may have agitated the Marauder carrying Marauder fans...
I wasn't sure they'd exist, but in retrospective, I was an idiot.
