if the Black Knight actually turns out looking like that it will be glorious.  it's funny, i never liked the redesign until i saw David White's TRO:3145 version.

looks badass, guys.

yay!  my wife will get her Nuptup! (Ares painted like the Pokemon Vileplume.)  it will go well with her Ponies and Decepticons...  the Orochi and Hatamoti Sana will go well with my 3145DCMS Project.

do we have a Dragon II concept yet?

It's actually so close to release, I sent an email out checking to see if we'll see either a painted mini from CSO or an IWM production pic in the next week. If not, then I'll go ahead and post the final sculpt pics.  ;)

awesome... My DCMS collection is being tweaked to 3145 era... and I am going to need a LOT of Dragon IIs (like one for every 2 Dragons...)

Will the Arrow IV on the back of the Dragon II be a separate piece?  I'm sure there are DC fans out there that would love to mod it into a dragon or grand dragon, but a big lump of pewter like that can be a challenge to file off.

It's the head.  The clix version had an awful head.   You could see the inspiration from MW4 in the body, but the head looked like it had been sucking on lemons or something.

Why would it have hands? It certainly doesn't have hands in the art or record sheets.

The Black Knight is modeled after MWDA version which was basically variation of the Mechwarrior 4 version which was No-hands and all lasers tube version.

The Hatamoto Suna has some nice elements, but the pose is awfully stiff.  Hopefully that's not the image to be used for final sculpt. The Black Knight though just oozes awesome!  I'll have to have one of those, even if I don't have a unit to put it in.   O0

The proposed part count should allow for some flexibility when building the Mech.

Here's hoping the CamoSpecs take on that Ares will have the same scheme used on the covers of FM:3145 and TRO:3145.

Also, I like how each of the legs has its own hex base, with a fourth hex in between to hold it all together.

By the way, will there be separate listings for each of the Ares configurations, or will the alternate weapon options be put into the same pack?

If they keep coming out with minis that look this cool you may just drag me in to 3145.  ;D

Or to  be more accurate I may have to make up some 3145 units, so will have to do some reading and find out what units are still around that I want to build.

I will be painting one that I secure (in the Hastati's colors) like the cover :)

I have to secure one first of course, but after doing the Doloire in that scheme I really enjoyed it and will start a small Republic unit for the Ares and republic friends

This is awesome O0 so cool to see some previews of what will be emptying my bank account!

Also I've been out of the loop for some time now but are the 3d renderings the beginnings of mechs to be printed similar to how the LAM's were done, Or just a reference for the sculptors?(I assume the first?) Does this mean were seeing the end of hand sculpted mechs and other goodness? :(...and something I've always wondered what are the master sculpts(greens?!?)  made out of, it's not just green stuff/apoxie/any other form of epoxy sculpting putty is it?  :-\

You can salvage the DA version by slicing off that Ghu-awful dog-muzzle. I redid the arms to match David White's art too.

But when the new mini arrives, I shall buy several - I have never bought the original bandy-legged Python escapee mini, and I shall retro-fit some to serve as 4th War era models.

Maybe I am the only one complaining, but the Ares is waaay to big. Even if it is a superheavy mech. ******, this monstrosity has the footprint of a dropship! If that's the case, it should have about the same size as the clicktech monstrosity.
Is this taking scale creep into new dimensions?!?

Title: Re: Some in-progress miniature pics from Iron wind Metals

The Ares isn't as big as it was in those pics anymore, its now more in line with the other superheavy mech mini's (not sure if I'm allowed to say the exact size) but lets just say it still wont fit on a standard base because of the size and position of the legs. As for variant pieces, stay tuned.

Umm, Ok, Will they be close to the clix ?? If so, I might just try un-basing the clix and using them for a 3145-ish era campaign. Hopefully they'll include the variants' parts too.

The Ares were big even by clix saize standards. I would doubt they are going to be close to the metal versions unless they are intended to bigger than mapscale dropships.

Don't worry it wont be anywhere near the size of the click mini. we actually made sure it fits with the rest of the mini line. its roughly the size of the omega. (in height)

For the tonnage, I would hope they are not taller than an Atlas.  There is too much mass arranged horizontally, and in the third leg, to allow for much height.  If you add a third leg to a 100-tonner like an Atlas or King Crab you would get damn near 135 tons.

That ship sailed though. They've already been depicted as tall, and by game rules Superheavies are a whole level taller. What Sentinel's done is to shrink the model down as far as possible while paying some 'lip service' to both previous rules and art.

Really?  Pause at 15 seconds  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipiwSVv42Wk) for an idea of how it should measure up to an Atlas.

Actually doesn't look taller to me from that perspective. Camera angle is low and Atlas is farther away than the Ares. Plus, the additional bulk of that Atlas III tells me it should be shorter than the original Atlas.

I'm not going to argue the point, I'm just not a fan of the "it has to be HUGE" philosophy. Square-cube law is where it's at for me, not 28mm heroic. ;)

I agree that the ship has sailed, but more because the Omega is the size it is, rather than because of the game rules compared to the Atlas. (And the Omega is beautiful, so I will be happy if they roughly match.)

Based purely on the game rules, the Atlas and the scorpion are both the same height. The minis (rightly) disagree.

Personally, I think I'd make it 1-3mm shorter than the Omega, but that is so fine a gradation as to be nit-picking.

I've got to agree here. While I've every intention of purchasing some tripods the Black Knight looks like it will be a great looking mini.

I'm confident we'll see many new Black Knights proxying in older-era games instead of the ridiculous bandy-legged suit of armour from a Scooby Doo movie we have as the current mini.

(And no, not a fan of the current Black Knight minis. Why do you ask?)

If Sentinel373 is handling the Ares (and hopefully the Poseidon will come of it too)...I've got a LOT of faith!!!

Yep. With a little publicity, I think the Ares will sell like hotcakes.

Aw you guys :)
we'll I had a lot of fun making it so I hope you guys will like the final version.

Sentinel, are you actually "sculpting" the Ares...or will that be handed off to someone else once your 3D Artwork is done?

I modeled the Ares based on the artwork from the TRO the click mini and a few other sources, from that 3d model a master will be 3d printed and from that master a mold will be made.
So for all intents and purposes I have "sculpted" it. Even though my hands have never physically touched the master.

P.S. in case it wasn't clear the 3d model in the pictures was far from finished, its much more awesome now :)

I love them and I'm really happy that you're using 3d printers for some of your new mechs.

Here's hoping the CamoSpecs take on that Ares will have the same scheme used on the covers of FM:3145 and TRO:3145.

The mech on the cover of FM 3145 can't remember the name but I hope that too gets a sculpt.

The Ares looks good can't wait to see how that does come out

I know I'm late to the game . . . but after seeing these pictures I'm now waiting on a Black Knight purchase until that new sculpt comes out.  It is gorgeous!

EDIT:  I see the new King Crab is on the development list, too . . . any chance that'll be bumped up?  It's also on my list of mechs to get.  Just saying . . .

Anything on the Release Schedule thread is more likely to get pushed back than bumped up. Patience is a virtue.

I know, but a guy can dream.  Besides, I'd rather see them take their time and make these mechs look amazing than try to rush things.  My wallet can certainly stand to wait.

Is it bad that seeing pictures of the Camo Specs diorama is what I look forward to the most as news filters back from GenCon every year?  :D

I'm the same way. Every year I eagerly await pictures of the diorama and tidbits of news. I still remember when the Clan Stone Lion scheme was spotted at the WoR diorama...

Very.  8) One of the more enjoyable ones I have worked on in the last few months. Working on a Pack Hunter II right now and this one is just plain fun in an absurd looking killing machine kind of way.  ;D

20-5096 Dark Age Dragon II
20-5098 D.A. Black Knight

New miniatures are generally released to distribution (local game store, other web stores, etc) first to encourage store sales.

It is usually about a one month delay for the webstore for the reason stated above. That has been IWM's procedure for many years now.

What Sentinel's done is to shrink the model down as far as possible while paying some 'lip service' to both previous rules and art.

Looks like he (and everyone else involved) did a great job of it.

1. i took this to be referring to the Dragon II, Black Knight and Hitotsune Kozo, is this correct?
2. if that is correct, is it just me, or are they actually not up? (like maybe i have to clear my cache or something?)

Remember, folks - GenCon ShutDown Syndrome. Nothing happens in the greater gaming industry this week.

Followed by Post-GenCon Syndrome - nothing gets done for the following week as people recover from Con-itus, or the next month while they try and catch up on everything that got delayed by GCSDS or PGCS.

W ;)

I didn't forget to buy it just didn't have enough money. It was either the New Atlas 3,  New Blackknight or the Gry Falcon, and they were just so cool that I couldn't bring myself to put any of them back to get your Dragon  :P
