Fan Fiction / Re: The Kapteyn Universe

Writing in finished on Supplemental II, now for editing and off to layout after that.

In the meantime, I will be providing a sneak peak for one faction as voted on by the fans on Discord.

That should be up in the next couple of days.

The Clan Field Manuals are coming together, one of the biggest tasks being aligning the time line of 20 Clans and keeping it all straight and without contradiction.

Also, the first three chapters of the first book have had their full write up, and they are monsters, coming in at about 18,000 words together. But they do the task of showing the formation of the KU Clans and some of the threads that will come into play throughout the story.

Fan Articles / Re: Mech of the Week: Deimos

It should be noted that if the Foxes have access to it, then everyone has access to it…for the right price.

That's true!   The Deimos is like a cheaper, slightly faster Dire Wolf alternative.

That depends on how you see Battletechnolgy, because many of those units are in BT now.

Battletechnology was also an official publication and was canon at one point.  The Deimos came from a source that was neither of those things, hence my curiosity.

Mektek had several original designs, yet this was the only one canonized - at least so far!

So, it occurred to me in the fresh light of morning, I could of course actually LOOK what prices my resin print-house actually charges for pre-coloured models.

The cheapest I saw were around $13-14, for "25mm" (this for a lady standing on a pile of bones being quoted as 46mm tall; even accounting for the base and the skull pile, that's 28 or more like 30-35mm...), but that would at least be vaguely be in the volume of a BattleMech. (My KS Diashi is just under 50mm tall.)

That's WAY less that I have seen before, at actually would put it less than IWM's metal BT models. (Which mostly, I think, illustrates how bonkers expensive metal is getting and why CGL is absolutely right to be pushing the plastic and, I understand, using the same sculptors.) But that makes it a... Plausible price for the interested. I can't even say "but I wouldn't pay that for a model" because I wouldn't for an RPG figure, but I have bought IWM BattleMechs for that because I was interested enough and I'm a cheapskate...!

Interesting.

That said, I recall them saying that there was a minimum thickness of about 2mm, which I consider to be way too chunky (I work to half that and I wasn't sure even if the model they were going to do would actually work for them).

So I would posit, then, that CGL's coloured must be at least of a plausible cost for them to produce, especially at what would be very high volume.

(Still something I can't personally really look at for my own (business) models, since the other previous barrier was simply I am not (and I especially can't afford) a digital  artist.)

The problem is, exposed to the vacumn space does not let those debris to reduce its heat. Only the radiation works on the space since there is almost no medium to transfer the heat, but for this you don't need to throw away those little debris in the first place and you could do better such as shoot the lasers instead. Add the big heat sink plate on the surface would serves the similar purpose too.

Also it surely pollute the course with those little debris, and although a few of those won't cause much effect but the constant and frequent uses of this may cause catastrophical result.

If it wasn't vacumn space then it could be work as the heat sink as long as you can keep use this. But... seriously, I'd shoot the steam instead, which is not only easier to gather from the air, but also not pollute the atmosphere as well.

Not to mention that some of the radiations(and the other ways to deliver heats in the case of atmosphere) will strike back the unit that uses it as well, degrade its effectiveness.

It is doubtful that it is even possible to build too. Since battletech world does not have such technology to control electromagnetic field with extreme precision, and making electromagnetic field on the distant area, it would be only justified on the alternative settings. The most close thing to do is the polarity shield to disperse PPC shots but that's all they could. If they were able to fully manage the tech, then they don't need a physical case for the plasma weapon in the first place.

I've also seen hand crank cardio machines if walking becomes problematic.

Oh! you gave me an idea. I don't like cycling because my back starts to bother me when I sit too long, so I bought myself a stepping machine. The old sporting goods shop was gonna close and they only had the display one available, so they let me have it for $28 cash.

depends on who owns the mech really, we know Minobu Tetsuhara for example piloted a vindicator on loan from the 'goons when he was the liason officer. so it likely would have been in 'goons colours.
But that wasn't a permanent assignment, more an ad-hoc loan when the situation required their dispossessed liaison officer be given a ride now.

Generally, I don't get why people get so hung up on paint schemes. MechWarriors are a highly individualistic folk. Especially with an oddball ride I would expect the machine to be an heirloom and on a "free" assignment, as others have pointed out, your liaison officer is probably free to paint it however he likes.
As a Kurita officer it will obviously feature the Dragon. The base scheme would either be a personal/family scheme, flat military gray or green, or perhaps some Crater Cobras paint scheme to show the liaison officer's respect for the unit he/she is liaising with. Guess it comes down to wether you want to blend in and display yourself as part of the unit, or if you want to underscore that you're not one of them. Kurita samurai tend to overthink these things for pages and pages in novels.

Oh gods, the insanity that is the Blazing Inferno.  Nicely done.

Inspired both by Mass Effect and my a friend's own hard sci-fi setting, this is basically an extreme-performance cooling system wherein a shower of molten metal droplets is expelled at one end of the vessel, and recollected at the other end of the vessel via a powerful electrostatic/electromagnetic field. As the metal droplets are exposed to the vacuum of space, they rapidly radiate away a majority of their heat, with far greater efficiency than even double heat sinks.

This comes at a cost however. The collection system is massive, and there's also the risk of losing coolant to the cosmic void. As such, this system will need to be topped up. Oh, and it's also possible to lose coolant to enemy fire or extreme maneuvers.

Thoughts?

For clarification... My idea for this system, mass-wise, is that there is an initial cost for installing the system (which scales with the size of the ship), but after that there's a break-even point where it outperforms Double Heat Sinks in terms of cooling per ton.

Started watching 'Fallout" on Am Prime, interesting. I never played the games as I was busying raising critters and watched kid friendly fair with them back then.
