...how does Maria Rambeau's presence weaken it?

Can't tell if serious. Or...?

It doesn't weaken it one bit.  The first women who went to fighter training didn't go alone, nor graduate alone.

Captain Marvel doesn't have to have a "first woman to <do thing>" story.

By choosing this particular setting you are doing a disservice (IMO) by trivializing the monumental task it was (and, still is) for women to become fighter pilots. Showing just Carol make the cut-- super cool. Showing more women than actually would have ever made the cut in 1995 robs Carols character of this achievement. IMO.

I've worked with fighter pilots, some of whom were women.  It IS a monumental task, and that more than one woman DID it in 1995 doesn't rob Carol Danvers of one iota of her achievement.

What percentage of this movie is about Carol Danvers's fight to become the first female fighter pilot in the United States Air Force?  I feel like we're arguing about something that isn't actually relevant to the plot.

Yeah . . . I think its going to set the stage for the next MCU story arc after finishing with Thanos by laying a foundation for the Skrull vs Kree war that has been going on in the background of the Thanos story.  Agents has really been working it.

Well's here's a couple of vids off of Marvel's Official Youtube channel...
Special Look - I'm guessing this is what aired in the championship game...
Featurette - Just some behind the scenes stuff. Kinda interesting.

All in all, this could be interesting.

Technically we saw it front and center in the 1st GOTG..

Yup. The Skrull/Kree war is something I've been waiting to see more of since Shield retired with Coleson.

I, too, am concerned about a 'gurrl powa' movie, but with Black Panther and its hot-button set-up, Marvel Studios've shown that they can get around politics and make a good story.

I'm in the wait and see category. If they muck this up, I'll be the first to let people know.

The Skrulls previously couldn't be mentioned in the MCU because they're part of the Fantastic Four mythos and were tied to those rights.  But after Derptastic Four flopped, the rights finally went back to Marvel.

I am wondering where the next season (a half season at best) of agents of shield will be going...

Yeah, Krennic was really good.  I also thought it was interesting to see SLJ playing a younger more relaxed Fury, before the weight of defending the world fell on his shoulders.

Saw this the night before last and had a lot of fun. The first ten or fifteen minutes is a little rough -- a lot of it feels like Marvel Movie Cliche Bingo -- but from when they get to Earth onward, my enjoyment steadily ramped up. It does drive me a bit nuts that that early scene with the Kree spec-ops team is predicated on a bad radio signal -- that's the world's laziest screenwriting cliche, but it's especially egregious here: you're telling me they can instantly transit between planets but they haven't yet mastered the radio? But that's about my only real gripe in a movie I otherwise thought did a good job trying to juggle so much, having to be an origin story, a connective tissue film, a period piece and a sci-fi epic all rolled into one...hell, you could argue that that's pretty meta-appropriate for the first lady-helmed MCU flick.

I'm pretty sure they were being jammed.  The thing with superwhamodyne radios is that if they exist, so do superwhamodyne jammers.

Wife and I saw it Friday. Very good movie.

Saw it and liked it.  Nice to see the first Captain Marvel that I knew of (Monica Rambeau) making an appearance :)

I also understand why the Stan Lee cameo made Kevin Smith cry...

Saw it Friday, solid film.

Not my favorite of the 20+ but very good.

I really liked Brie's humor/facial expressions, Sam's humor,  Krennics voice coming from the Skrull was killing me,  I'm like, it JUST DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT, but he was great in his humor as well.

Goose stole the show for sure.  Was great to see Colson as a rookie & already sliding on judgement calls/rules breaking for the greater good.

I was a bit confused in a world of warp/jump points all over the galaxy, why a "Light Speed Engine" is important, though I guess if that LS is their "Impulse Power" engine then that would make sense for insane tactical speeds, which she showed a bit when she was running inside the ship.

I'm also kind of curious how Larson/Mar Vell gets the Tesseract from Stark since I always assumed when Start pulled it up from the Ocean that it went to the SSR/Shield with him.

I really like how this sets up a lot of things we saw in AoS with the Kree body used on Colson & the history of Fury's eye which KILLS ME, LMAO.
