Fighters - Pulse Lasers or ER Lasers+TC

Not terribly familiar with aerospace combat, but if you have the single option of having EITHER Inner Sphere "extended-range lasers tied into a TC" OR "pulse lasers without a TC", which ONE of these two choices would be the most beneficial in typical aerospace combat?

If clan, then pulsers, if IS, ER and TC as their pulse lasers are dangerously short ranged.
