I say old chaps, getting a bit dusty in here, isn’t it?
Sunrise is Coming.

It took 13 months to cover page 42. I guess we are pacing ourselves.

It's no fun being CGL's curent whipping (3145 era). I now know how Capellan fans felt during most of the BT history.

The FS has been in the sewer longer than the CC ever was. War of 3039, Lyran secession, Guerrero, Katherine's usurpation and FCCW, Jihad, Dark Age... Over a century in-universe, and more than half of the game's 35-year existence. I never met a single CC fan until the faction became the top dog. I'm not sure they're any different from the faux fans who show up wearing jerseys and caps after a team wins a championship even though they never wore them before that.

Calm down, old chap. By my count, we are only on page 26.

I knew plenty on here, prior to their dramatic elevation in fortunes.

Usually absolute characters all of them, and a select few I'd be less
charitable in describing :p

Hello by the way, one of my occasional flyby visits.  Oh and as to our
factions current difficulties, be resolute chaps.  Shattered Fortress
shows some delightful, moves for us in a better direction.  Battered
perhaps, but far from broken.  I'd hope the bright sunshine of
authorial fiat, would once again be tilting in our specific direction.

We've sat in the shade, a touch longer than perhaps we deserved
no?

I could have written this up north, but the intended audience I'd most like
to hear from would be here.  That and the quality of debate I've seen since
my return, hasn't been inspiring up there.

Revisiting Shattered Fortress, mention was made of the Davion Irregulars.

Small recently formed AFFS Combined Arms Battalions,  now this suggests
something is at work.  Not reformed units, but new ones.  Where they were
formed up, and with whom is not said.  But if we assume recent academy
grads, say evacuated NAIS/Albion students from New Avalon....that'd work
no?  Of course that's mere speculation.

But as for the facts, as best I recall there's at least seven of these units.
Or at least numbered up to seven.  They were active in the defence of
Robinson, along with the liberation of some of the nine Draconis March
worlds.

Now for a theory.  These units sound very similar to WW2 German
formations, Kampfgruppe.  What we'd call today Battlegroups, the
historic example was an adhoc combined arms formation.  Sounds
similar yes?

I'd imagine there'd be more than a few refugee nobles, there've been
mentions of evacuations of VIPs in the TROs.

Just got the attached back from the framers to instill some Davion pride. And indeed hopefully 2020 includes an in-universe resurgence for the Suns.

I’ve been re-reading First Succession War recently, and there are some uncanny parallels between the FedSuns’ darkest hour then and our situation now.  But we’d been on a more-or-less continual upswing from roughly 2800 to 3057, so perhaps the work will turn soon and we’ll be back in gear for another couple of centuries.

I suspect that TPTB will want to avoid this angle, but my question is this: what is the New Avalon Catholic Church up to?  We know that the Pope and College of Cardinals were massacred when the Dragon took New Avalon.  We also know that the church has not-inconsiderable military assets; the BattleCorps Unit Digest on the Knights Defensor has them at around two regiments and growing within a few years of their formation in 3084.  Now, perhaps they’ll simply continue protecting the flock from pirates in the Outback, but it seems possible that a new Pope might decide it’s time for a good, old-fashioned crusade to remove the pagan boot from the neck of the faithful, and call the church militant to join the cause.  A few regiments of holy warriors augmenting Julian’s patriots would not go amiss.  But, as I say, I doubt TPTB will want to delve too deeply into that realm.

Now that the KS character surveys are going out, I was curious if anyone wanted to be attached to a common unit.

This was the draft for what I was going to leave in the notes section:

Unit suggestions for different timelines:
Invasion/Civil War - 9th FedCom RCT
Dark Ages - Military command involved in the liberation of New Avalon
Post ilClan - Davion/FedSuns prestige command in the new timeline

I know that is pretty open so hardly guarantees anything but I am more interested in appearing in something interesting the authors concocted within those timelines. The 9th was something I picked as an interesting command that appeared all over the FedCom and was involved in some noteworthy actions but perhaps had not had a lot of fiction written about it specifically. While we do not know exactly what units will have the honor of liberating New Avalon, I assume that a written appearance in any of them would be a fine moment for the AFFS-inclined.

I have a Khan-level pledge with extra boosts and a Star Colonel so that should hopefully guarantee a nice moment in the sun for the unit.

If you are interested feel free to post here or PM.

I’m over here wondering if I could petition to be Pope of the NACC.  I mean, it seems like a more prominent role than they’d permit, but how many New Avalon Popes do we actually have names for?  2?

I would say go for it. I imagine being not Mechwarrior helps. Worse case maybe you still get a senior role.
