So...COLBY'S COMMANDOS...What is their paint Scheme
« on: 16 August 2018, 09:59:29 »
I'm putting this here, as really...I have no clue where to put it.

Miniatures? Sure, ya, once I start painting them.
Ask the Writers? Could go there as it is a question also directed at them.
Non-Canon Units? Possibly, though they ARE in two novellas/short stories in the Box sets, so not really Non-Canon anymore.

Frankly I really have not a clue where to ask this questions, so MODS, if this is wrong place, feel free to move to where you feel it belongs.

That said, I am thinking of painting up the BOX SET Miniatures as Colby's Commandos....except...the two short stories are a little vague on color scheme. The Covers show a Dark Grey, almost black Commando on GOLDEN RULE, while EYESTORM shows a two-tone Blue-Grey/Grey Shadowhawk.

If I am missing something out there in other works as to the Commando's Color scheme, I'm all ears!

Every time I've tried to add new schemes for units, I've been deflected to Camospecs and waiting for them to create them. I think one of the requirements for being a full artist over there is doing a scheme never done before, so perhaps you could make Colby's Commandos how you like them....

I could...I would just hate to paint them all up and then have an 'official' scheme pop up that is off.

Neon spends 2 weeks meticulously painting a blue-grey scheme with grey highlights - Ahhh...Colby's Commandos

You could go with Weirdo's favorite scheme: White with ivory highlights and eggshell flames.

Check out Carlyle’s Shadow Hawk in the pilot cards. That’s the scheme.

I thought Eggshell was a type of finish...kinda pebbly...

I suppose I could Go White with Pearl Trim and Ivory Flames. ;)

Check out Carlyle’s Shadow Hawk in the pilot cards. That’s the scheme.

It 'looks' to be Blue-Grey with an olive accent. The pic is a little small. Is there a larger color print somewhere?

Also, it appears the Unit Logo is something along the lines of the attachment, correct?

Just go ahead and do it.  I've asked myself on a few schemes, and just work with what's available, even if it's just a mention of the colors.  A good number of the Camospec schemes are not exact matches either, so there can and will be some variations, I feel.  A number of mechs representing a unit are sometimes a generic scheme with only a decal as the reminder of the unit.

It's both! You could get an eggshell paint with an eggshell finish.

If people don't want burned bacon, they need to think before saying white is a viable paint color, or dissolving Star Leagues.

I think you have your priorities backwards.  Save the bacon first.

Seems legit.

I mean, the canon Genyosha paint scheme is, essentially, dark grey with a black/grey logo with dark grey accents.

Because apparently Yorinaga Kurita was too classy to just say "paint them all black."

For clarification, the submission requirement is actually painting up a unit that has a scheme description already, but no painted examples.  That was driven by the desire to flesh out our image database...which is in limbo at the moment.
I don't recall any recent requests from authors for schemes, but the times we did have those discussions in the past, they were hammered out fairly quickly.

So, did a quick paint, of what I believe based on cover pictures and the Commander Card for Durant Carlyle's Shadow Hawk is what I think the paint scheme is supposed to be.

Will paint more tonight/tomorrow.

I give you Colby's Commandos...Commando.?

Really? All the sources I've seen say the Genyosha uses ash grey. I guess we should change those...  :P

I can't speak for what others do, but to me ash grey is a light shade, like the colour of ashes.  :)

Sir NeonKnight, may I ask what colors you used to paint the scheme? 8)

Base Coat CITADEL Astronomican Grey

then CITADEL Drakenhof Nightshade to tint grey blue

Then drybrush CITADEL Space Wolves Grey

Then back to CITADEL Astronomican Grey to Paint the Grey highlight pannels down centre, Shoulders, Hips and Knees as per picture on the Card

Then CITADEL Badab Black or CITADEL Nuln Oil over that grey to darken it slightly and highlight panel lines.

More Mechs will be posted later today in the Miniatures section.
