Title: Has anyone tried ?
Post by: Col Toda on 10 August 2015, 07:38:13
A single battle armor hover sled ultra light capable of carrying a 2,000 KG Assault suit with a unicycle chassis . The best I could get is about 9/14 for speed . Though a notch faster might be doable . Because of the ultralight frame it can have maximum of 2 pt of armor per location . The idea is to get walking 1 or 2 battle armor to where you want them faster than an APC could . Infantry and battle armor are area denial tools that only work if you can get them to the area before the enemy goes past it . You also can fake having more battle armor if you can bring all of yours to every engagement .

If you could make one as an omni... ;)

Using your restraints of an ultralight hover-monocycle with a 2-ton infantry compartment, and making it as fast as possible:
Code: [Select]
War Chariot:
Small Support Vehicle
Total Mass: 4999 kg
Rating: F/X-?-?/B

Chassis: Hover (Monocycle, Ultralight), TL F [165kg, 1608.75 C-Bills]
Engine: Fusion Engine, Speed 20/30, TL F [2523 kg, 50460 C-Bills]
Fuel: Hydrogen, infinite km Operational Range, TL F [0 kg, 0 C-Bills]
Seats: 1 Ejection [100 kg, 25000 C-Bills]
Armor: 2 Front, 2 Sides, 2 Aft, BAR 5, TL F [208 kg, 3200 C-Bills]
Cargo: 2000 kg [2000 kg, 0 C-Bills]

Total: 4996 kg, 88290 C-Bills
Cruise Speed: 216.0 km/h
Flank Speed: 324.0 km/h

Notes: Uses monocycle and ultralight modification, 1 crew seat/ejector (100 kg)
Since you didn't specify, I made it a TL F fusion job, because that has the smallest engine multiplier on the table.  The ejection seat replaced the pillion seat because adding another MP weights more than 50 kg, and the sled doesn't weigh in at the full 4999 kg because that would leave a kg left over, and a 1-kg glove compartment is just silly.

And no, it's not an omni.

If I make it a VTOL and drop that unicycle mod:

Code: [Select]
Airlifter:
Small Support Vehicle
Total Mass: 4999 kg
Rating: F/X-?-?/B

Chassis: VTOL (Ultralight), TL F [330kg, 2475 C-Bills]
Engine: Fusion Engine, Speed 21/32, TL F [2225 kg, 44500 C-Bills]
Fuel: Hydrogen, infinite km Operational Range, TL F [0 kg, 0 C-Bills]
Seats: 1 Ejection [100 kg, 25000 C-Bills]
Armor: 2 Front, 2 Sides, 1 Aft, 1 Rotor, BAR 5, TL F [208 kg, 3200 C-Bills]
Cargo: 2136 kg [2136 kg, 0 C-Bills]

Total: 4996 kg, 87702 C-Bills
Cruise Speed: 226.8 km/h
Flank Speed: 345.6 km/h

Notes: Uses ultralight modification, 1 crew seat/ejector (100 kg)

A bit cheaper, a bit faster, and it flies...

Thank you . You got 2X the speed than I was expecting . Given the equipment rating of battle armor in the first place F type fusion works for the RPG Clan Invasion ERA and afterwords . It also works for the Republic and Dark Age ERAs for table top . I noticed Catalyst seems to shoot for tech level C or D and perhaps a fuel cell engine they also may shoot for a rounder number like 4.9 or 4.95 tons , but I would be happy to use your designs as is . Your VTOL version is cheaper and faster but has the back end problem of the huge amount of extra training needed to deal with anything that flies .Except for in for life special forces the training needed would be prohibited . I am not totally sure if we are going to see a lower tech near disposable cheap fuel cell version of this published in the future or one's just like yours slower with rounder numbers or both . Be assured I will put them in a game at some point . I envision have them in an urban setting or suburban or light wooded terrain . I will have to look up stacking rules to see how many issues arrise. I hope this hardware gets adopted by more people .

Ever flown a quadrotor drone?  Done right it could be flown that easy just by having a software layer to interpret commands so that it's easier to fly.  And I've been using things like this occasionally ever since I first saw the anime Gasaraki where the enemy mecha had this VTOL carrier that latched onto clamps on their shoulder region and transported them.

Ask and ye shall receive
Code: [Select]
Quickmover:
Small Support Vehicle
Total Mass: 4999 kg
Rating: D/X-?-?/B

Chassis: Hover (Monocycle, Ultralight), TL D [250 kg, 1523.4375 C-Bills]
Engine: Fuel Cell Engine, Speed 12/18, TL D [1850 kg, 16187.5 C-Bills]
Fuel: Hydrogen, 2227 km Operational Range, TL D [618 kg, 0 C-Bills]
Seats: 1 Pillion [25 kg, 10 C-Bills]
Armor: 2 Front, 2 Sides, 2 Aft, BAR 5, TL D [256 kg, 2000 C-Bills]
Cargo: 2000 kg [2000 kg, 0 C-Bills]

Total: 4999 kg, 21693 C-Bills
Cruise Speed: 129.6 km/h
Flank Speed: 194.4 km/h

Notes: Uses monocycle and ultralight modification, 1 crew seat/pillion (25 kg)
This is a TL D, fuel cell based ultralight monocycle.  TL C would disallow the utralight mod, and also if you are fielding BA you have access to TL E anyway, to TL D shouldn't be a problem. It's considerably slower, though a 12/18 profile is still blazing fast if you compare it with regular APCs. The seat is back to being a pillion because it reduces the price by a lot, and the extra weight can be converted into extra fuel and thus operational range.

The VTOL version would be:
Code: [Select]
Maracanan:
Small Support Vehicle
Total Mass: 4999 kg
Rating: D/X-?-?/B

Chassis: VTOL (Ultralight), TL D [500 kg, 2343.75 C-Bills]
Engine: Fuel Cell Engine, Speed 13/20, TL D [1730 kg, 15137.5 C-Bills]
Fuel: Hydrogen, 1880 km Operational Range, TL D [488 kg, 0 C-Bills]
Seats: 1 Pillion [25 kg, 10 C-Bills]
Armor: 2 Front, 2 Sides, 1 Aft, 1 Rotor BAR 5, TL D [256 kg, 2000 C-Bills]
Cargo: 2000 kg [2000 kg, 0 C-Bills]

Total: 4999 kg, 22740 C-Bills
Cruise Speed: 140.4 km/h
Flank Speed: 216.0 km/h

Notes: Uses ultralight modification, 1 crew seat/pillion (25 kg)
A bit less range for a single MP, at about the same cost.

Oh, and a Maracanan is a kind of small parrot, the blue-winged macaw.
