Title: Canopian Cuisine
Post by: dsteelegm on 25 September 2019, 00:28:42
I am seducing my wife into the battletech universe and think the MoC is a great place for her to start her lore journey. I want to cook a meal to introduce her to the Magistracy. Any ideas for Canopian Cuisine?

A quick look on Sarna would suggest Magistracy food is high-end foods from various heritages. I would suggest a good gamebird, veal, or something sufficiently unique and/or high class.

Recent MoC would suggest Mandarin inspired cooking recipes as well, hard to say if they would be authentic type cuisine or the American derived things like Tso and sweet fried stuffs.

I'm an ABC and even I think that's impossible.  ;D. Plus all the foodstuff I'd come up with has....problems with acquisition and other ramifications.

Brazilian and Caribbean food.  The MoC is space brazil with cuban and Caribbean flair.

Go high-end Vegas, then spend the night on the town.  I'd advise skipping the local, ah "pleasure circus"  ;D, but burlesque might not be out of the question.

The only thing that matters is "high end".  Maybe a fusion of French, Italian, Greek, and Chinese.

As Crystalla Centrella said to Ian Marik, “Coffee?  Tea?  Or would you prefer me?”

Agreed, and not just because that was a really bad pun...  ;D

I like the idea of Brazilian/Caribbean cuisine.  Brazilian steak houses will always have a special place in my heart...  Churrascarias FTW!

I would say something over the top that provides both a meal and entertainment.  the following seem like they would fit well

Brazilian churrascaria with and endless parade of meats brought to the table
Moroccan restaurant with belly dancing entertainment
teppanyaki With the chef performing knife and food juggling while cooking
Nantaimori Eating sushi where the platter is a naked individual

Another option could be a meal where people are brought together and can be casual

For example, Ethiopian cuisine has Injera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injera), where you use your fingers to tear off a piece of bread, use that piece to grab a piece of vegetable or meat from one of the stews put on the bread, and eat it.

You can eat it yourself or feed it to a fellow eater, but the key is everyone is sitting around having fun together

Whatever you serve; you should probably be dressed like a Chippendale when you do it.

Interestingly, I read an article in the Economist earlier this week that made the case for Italian food being the most "exported" kind in the world.  Having served a two year tour in Italy, I'm not in any way opposed to this...  8)
