Compliance Issue and SEO Suggestions
« on: 28 August 2020, 13:13:03 »
It appears the forums do not have a privacy policy or GDPR enabled. SMF 2.0.17 does support both. Strongly advised these be enabled for EU individuals viewing the site as cookies are used and GDPR would apply.

In addition, would suggest adding extensions for SEO friendly pretty URLs and sitemap generation. Will help Google and others crawl the forums for indexing.

After reviewing the GDPR, especifically the art. 3, it seems that the Battletech forums is beyond the scope of that act. Therefore, it is not in effect here.

Many thanks for your concerns.

Since cookies are being used, GDPR does apply, even when they are strictly necessary.

GDPR also applies to ANY citizen of the EU Member Countries, regardless of if they are accessing the site from the EU or any data is processed within the EU.

However, cookies can store a wealth of data, enough to potentially identify you without your consent. Cookies are the primary tool that advertisers use to track your online activity so that they can target you with highly specific ads. Given the amount of data that cookies can contain, they can be considered personal data in certain circumstances and, therefore, subject to the GDPR.

Look, dude, when you are a real mechwarrior you don't need to get all dressed up in cooling suits and cool helmets to work on your mech. You just strip down to your 1980s panties and crop top vest and start wrenchin' it.
