Ocēlōmeh, the Aztec name for 'Jaguar Warriors', the members of their military elite. The name was chosen due to how the numerous armored capacitor blocks lining the sides of the ultralight Gauss rifle. These reminded a technician of an image she'd seen in a Terran museum, of the Aztec's obsidian lined war-club/sword. This was then passed up the line until the Smoke Jaguar Khan heard of it, looked for themselves, and immediately approved of the name change. Originally it was to have been referred to as the Nekomata, but that designation had never sat well for R&D staff due to being seen as potential lingering ties to the destroyed Spirit Cats and their (effectively) annihilated & abjured progenitors, Clan Nova Cat.
One major design change that has made the Ocēlōmeh more appreciated by the reborn Smoke Jaguars is that the oversized chassis - in fact, the largest available to Protos - was deliberately made that way to incorporate an enlarged cockpit pod. The pod itself is lined with numerous restraint bladders for cushioning, and can be reset as needed to conform to any pilot between the height of a petite 1.55 meters all the way up to those seen only in Elementals, at 2.5 meters. These bladders are inflated (or deflated later) with a gel which has very similar properties to the 'medical' sealant Harjel used by many Clan's Battle Armors. The only true way to tell if the pilot is a giant or not, is a subtle raising or lowering of the central torso hatch which actually makes the design somewhat more intimidating with a seemingly sunken-down head sensor cluster with oversized armored shoulders, whenever crewed by a shorter pilot. Another is that the larger internal spaces also meant some of the data processing load normally run through the pilot's EI implants could be redirected into the Proto's own systems. This has been found to reduce the strain on pilots significantly, prolonging their endurance in the field and in fact, studies forecast a potential extra two or three years worth of longevity before detrimental effects from the EI begin to set in. Highly appreciated in the reborn Clan which is still heavily lacking in frontline personnel and still needs to pad its current ranks for longer than average periods as the new sibko generations are only just starting to begin their earliest combat training cycles.
Ocēlōmeh when used tactically, fall somewhere between the slow defensive types, such as the Basilisk, Triton, or Minotaur, and the faster units. This, coupled with it's relatively heavy armament makes it act in an anchoring role more akin to a fast heavy or assault 'Mech. Armed with a laser, the aforementioned Gauss rifle, and a standard six-tubed short ranged missile launcher, it can be quite deadly entirely unsupported on its own against many Medium 'Mechs, and even a few Heavy 'Mechs. The fact its chest armor plating can withstand no less than the full fury of an Awesome and still stay operational, says volumes as to the respect which must be given to an Ocēlōmeh.
As of this write up, Ocēlōmeh are only found within Clan Smoke Jaguar. Unlike the original generation of pilots on Huntress, viewed as cast-offs, the newest Smoke Jaguar pilots are considered by the leadership to be a very finite number of ultra-elites. There is no 'set' phenotype as of yet, especially considering how the bulk of Jaguar personnel are still from their Fidelis days and so any pilot showing better than average potential towards one type of craft will be 'nudged' towards it. By that same token, sibko cadets are also being looked over for potential pilots that might prove themselves to be better suited for controlling a ProtoMech than an Aerospace Fighter, BattleMech, or Battle Armor, no matter which original phenotype they come from. This explains the reasoning behind the cockpit arrangement.
