There has definitely been a change in the way multi part mini's have been designed over the last couple of years.  I have to say I hate the TDRs, built one and the other just keeps getting put to the back of the construction pile.  Then compare those to the Zeus-X4, with much better designed and sculpted joints, it was a breeze to assemble.

I think the Ares is a lesson in how to do multi part legs. Three parts, fitting together perfectly and allowing for easy customization.
From what I understand, B-3 is going the same route with big attachment points. So I'm confident. :)

The Thunderbolt was one of my first multi-piece Mech sculpts so, of course, it was primitive as can be.  Practice makes perfect... :D

It has been said before that such multi part minis can be unpopular with new players and those who want a simple to assemble mini to put on the table right away. I like a mini with less than ten parts or so personally.

Isn't there only supposed to be one of these in cannon?  If so, no one will buy more than one of these minis, for the most part.  I think we'd be better off doing something else.

I'm betting a relatively small number of customers care that there is one in canon.  I assume the rest might just choose to use it as a proxy for a different variant like we do with nearly every other mini available.

There was only one Osteon Jaguar ever made in canon and yet IWM made a mini of that. I'm with DarkISI, it got enough votes to be in the top 6 so it won the right to be opened for funding. I voted for the Red  Reaper so I'm excited to help fund it.

there are some other one-offs with minis like the Warhammer Lich, Pillager "Anvil", and Grand Titan "Vengeance"

True. I forgot about those. The Lich, however, had a full production variant made based on it. The WHD-10CT which uses the same art as the Lich and is used buy several different factions according to the MUL.

True, but the mini was released long before the production variant.

I don't currently own a Black Knight so depending on how the Red Reaper turns out that may be the mini I used to add some to my collections and just use them for alternate variants.

Given how humanity likes to operate, there's probably a lot of Black Knights refitted with sword and shield, even if Red Reaper's exact configuration is unique. Heck, there's GOTTA be at least a few high-ranking Blakist pilots that did a similar mod, given their love of broadswords.

Yeah, I always assumed so and found it rather strange that we never had a Black Knight with a sword and shield before. Hell, the name screams for it.

Maybe that's why TBTP never made a variant like that in the past. Maybe they thought it was to cliche. Reguardless of the reason, I love the design and I can't wait to add it to my collection. Might have to get a couple to represent a production model. It would probably look good in Hastati Sentinel black and gold while it fights another one in Com Guard white.  :o
Hastati pilot: "It's just a flesh wound."
Com Guard pilot: "I cut your arm off."
Hastati pilot: "It'll grow back."
