I think it would be 8 Handlers per 28 man platoon as they replace support weapons which can only be 2 to a squad.

What about the variables?

We know infantry can go to 10 per Squad with 30 max per Platoon. Anything else needs to be divided into more sub-units.

A 30-trooper platoon in 3 squads of 10 would only have 6 Support Weapons or K9s...

Aquamen! The elite infantry of the merfolk!

It is, however, a problem, as only conventional foot infantry types can use K9s, and with orcas, you have yourself a beast-mounted submersible naval platoon there. Mechanized, jump, or other non-foot troops are not valid K9 unit choices as it's too easy for the li'l beasties to become separated from their masters in the heat of battle. (We may have left the wording vague enough somewhere to "treat beast mounts as foot infantry" somewhere, though. But such does not appear to be in the rulebooks I have on hand.)

I think that might be too much. There's only 2 K9s per squad compared to 1 riding animal per squad member. Unfortunately, I'm not finding costs for individual animals.

Like 15per value point, making it expensive but worth it.

I'd go as much as low to medium cost support weapon for each K9 to reflect training but not as much as a whole platoon of riding animals.
