honestly, i could see the Capcon making heavy use of the Arrow-urbie for support.. it's a lot cheaper than a catapult, is a lot more common, and has better ammo supply.  it's slower, but ideally artillery support should be well behind the main force anyway.

Better than the Catapult C3, yes, if measured by ammo endurance. Better than the more modern C5? Certainly not. CPTL-C5 has 4 tons of ammo, more mobility and armor. Besides, since it is older (around the St. Ives conflict), they're likely numerous in the missile-happy CapCon, unlike the later AIV Urbie.

It is our mascot as a fanbase.

Yes, while the Mad Cat may be most recognizable, the humble UrbanMech is what we symbolically rally around.

The way I play has the Urbie set up as more of a "point-man" in a dedicated urban combat oriented light lance, taking the punishment and dishing it back out.

LBX-AC/10 with two tons of ammo, as you do. Two heat sinks removed to give space for the extra ton of ammo and to add a Clan ER Small Laser for some PD. Maybe add an extra ton of armor for some protection.

I usually run this in a lance with a WLF-1B, a PNT-9R, and a RVN-3L. Wolfhound and Panther are my heavy hitters, Urbie's the point-man (as I've already explained), and Raven's the scout.

Sometimes I switch out the Raven for an Owens for some long range missile goodness, but the Raven is usually the better option for urban combat.

You know, I just have this picture of some foe deciding he's going to pick on the Urbie, hunting it through the streets of a city. Then, as he turns the corner, he finds the Urbie is standing there... backed up by his two same-speed friends, the original Bombard, and the Annihilator.  >:D

I'm currently looking at my UrbanMech IIC, and trying to decide if it would provide a good assault gun for a Society Trey otherwise built around similarly slow ProtoMechs(mostly Hobgoblins, with a couple Minotaurs). Kinda like an Infantry Support Vehicle, but a Proto Support 'Mech.

Think it might work?

I'd say yes, but that Urbie'll draw more fire comparatively.

Sounds like a good use for an Urbanmech IIC 2.

Sounds like a good use for an Urbanmech IIC 2.

The 2's extra range would be nice, but my preference for such 'infantry' support units is that they compensate for their smaller buddies' lack of range and concentrated punch. The HAG certainly has range, but I think the Ultra's can-opener-itude would serve better, to open holes the protos can exploit.

I'd think that the Minotaurs could do pretty well on their own. Maybe you could do more of a crossfire set up, where the target has to choose between an Ultra 10 to the back, or several ER Mediums.
Subtlety is for those who lack a bigger gun.

I've always liked the UrbanMech and UrbanMech IIC.  They're very specialized machines, but they're cheap and do the job that they're specialists at fairly well.

And with my upcoming university graduation, I suddenly have a vision of UrbanMechs waddling to the strains of Sir Edward Elgar, Bt, OM GCVO's "Pomp and Circumstance".

You know you now have it in your heads as well.

Nah, just the top of the head kind of pops off, the balloon inflates, and after a couple of minutes the whole contraption just sort of... floats away... wherever the wind takes it... roll 1D6 to determine wind direction, another to determine wind speed...

That's only for the primitive RetroTech version.  Intro and Standard tech versions use spheroid movement. ;)

(Actually, you're all making me want to resurrect my version of the Urbie LAM)

Well, at least we know how the Urbie got it's big gun thanks of comic maker of Critical Hits. Story by Kanajashi. Written and illustrated by Ken aka "Plexi".

And I have to love the Urbie once again; it's impressive when you can make a 'Mech carry a 20 ton weapon that's 2/3 of its weight, ammo, and still have enough armor to keep from critting itself if it falls over.  Improved Heavy Gauss Urbie works.

...once.

There's just something about the UrbanMech that I love - it's the Matilda II of Battletech.  Decent armor for its size, slow as snot because it's supposed to advance with infantry, and packing a gun.  I would rate the AC10 of the UrbanMech as much more effective in-setting than the real world Matilda, but it's still got its uses especially once alternative ammo comes into play.  And you can't argue that they're not both quite distinctive, visually.

Is it wrong that this has this, along with the Errant Mechwarriors thread, has me thinking of an Errant Urbie on a backwater world that drops the AC/10 in favor of XTRO:1945 converted weapons (ie. recoilless rifles and Rifles), weapons the locals can manufacture to support the RetroUrbie?  Heck, throw in some paramedic gear and a salvage arm, and it can even do engineering/rescue work when it's not fighting off pirates!
