We will probably go down for a few seconds a couple more times over the next hour or two.... I'm doing a whole bunch of "apt-get update" on the server.

So the server runs on some flavor of Devian... or at least something that's apparently using their package structure.  Interesting.

Knowing you, I'm betting it's not Ubuntu.

Hmm.  I suspect at least a brief outage is coming.  Glad to see you're on top of things and keeping the OS patched.
