(Answered) Artillery distance/timing
« on: 21 April 2018, 20:19:22 »
Had an interesting argument come up while playing a campaign game today. Playing on a 2x2 mapsheet area, had an Arrow IV gun trailer tucked in a corner. There was a dispute as to flight-time on the rounds. One player contended that p.181, the indirect flight time table, specifies "distance from battlefield" included all of the mapsheets as the total battlefield and thus all the shots would be time zero. The other player contended that anything over 17 hexes would be a mapsheet's distance and take an extra turn. The biggest problem being that that section seems to be the the only use of "Battlefield" in the rules as a term, ever, with a few phrases talking about "battlefield vehicles" and such. It ended up not being an issue, the Arrow IV being used to stay on air defense instead with the ADA rounds it had in some of the ammo bins, but it would be a good clarification for the future.

This player was correct.  Anything at 17 or less happens within the same turn; anything beyond that has at least 1-turn delay based on total distance.
