Dog Days (Tank/Infantry Mercenaries)
« on: 27 November 2021, 17:45:06 »
First post in Non-canon units. Here goes nothing. :D

The story of the Dog Days Mercenary Company begins with a business family in the Federated Commonwealth losing everything that they had. As the owners of a successful shipping business, they were not the largest game around, but they possessed a number of transport dropships with which they would ply their trade. That would change during the Fed Com Civil War wherein the AFFS would dragoon the transports into service, paying only half of the market value for each one. While not penniless, this was the end for the family's business. The business which had been built up over generations was now dust on the solar winds. The only great asset which remained was a single old Jumbo-class dropship MV Ken Roberts, a relic which the AFFS had deemed unsuitable for military use. The loss of an entire generation's legacy proved too much to bear for the senior members of the family. In 3063, Michael Sergeiovich Lang Roberts buried his parents, boarded his old dropship, and fled to the Magistracy of Canopus.

The intervening year is unrecorded, but during it, Michael found his 2IC, Elenna Yamato, a former mercenary turned prostitute after a pirate raid had destroyed her company. With some wrangling and no small amount of luck, the two were able to scrape together a new mercenary company recruited largely from Canopian society's massive underclass and picking old equipment out of a bargain bin. A round of drinking lead to the name Dog Days, which afterwards was hypothesized to be a reference to Elenna's myomer prosthetic ears which she had gotten in order to try to increase her appeal. It had certainly worked, but not enough to make the job that much more profitable.

The Dog Days company is primarily focused on garrison contracts, security, and anti-guerilla warfare, jobs that infantry are generally fairly good at. Most of their operations would be run from the MV Ken Roberts which had been fitted with berthng space, vehicle bays, computer equipment, logistical support systems, and office space

Early Days

Dog Days Heavy Metal - Early on, the company was fairly hard up for supplies and variety was somewhat limited at best, leading them to resort to fairly desperate measures. As a result however, the lances are remarkably uniform. The Heavy Metal element is primarily intended to support the infantry, moving about the battlefield and hammering at crisis points as needed.

Dog Days Infantry - Dog Days infantry are effectively the meat and potatoes of the company and are not purely infantry but the vehicles present are purely present to support the infantry operation including the transports, the LRM scorpion tank, the organic tank lance, and one modified B1 transport, dropping the infantry bay for four tons of communications equipment and three additional tons of armor.

Dog Days Air Wing - the Dog Days Air Wing consists of two Ares Mark I Landing Craft and their crews. These small craft pulled out of an old scrapyard have been retrofitted at great expense with standard armor and bomb bays in order to allow for air support and general saturation bombing should such a thing be required. The bomb bays can also fit supplies too in case it is necessary for a unit to operate further afield than usual.
> "Crimson Lady" - captained by Lieutenant Margret Greene
> "Student Driver" - captained by Lieutenant Kaylla White

MV Ken Roberts - Jumbo-class Dropship.
Commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Sergeiovich Lang Roberts

Expected events
> Michael Roberts arrives in Magistracy
> Meets Elenna
> Forms mercenary company
> Goes to New Colony Region

Upon arriving in the New Colony Region, the unit is able to pick up a contract on the planet of Cygnus in which it will be participating in counter-insurgency efforts against the militarized wing of one of the local independence movements. Contrary to most expectations, they find themselves more than happy to simply walk the streets, and maintain cordons in front of protesters rather than actively hunt the local independence movement. While there's still some hunting down of active shooters or bomb threats, for the most part, the stance taken meant that peaceful political methods gained traction. This was infuriating to the local administrators, but complaints were often slapped down by the MRBC as the contract had not stipulated more than the company was already doing.

Interesting unit
"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast, And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill, And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"
