Buccaneer Piracy Tank
« on: 17 December 2017, 04:58:41 »
OK this is something for an AU I'm toying around with writing out.

While the documents recovered during the raid on Halstead Station wear lacking in a great many details, they did contain enough details that engineers at the NAIS where eventually able to reverse engineer and produce a reasonable facsimile of the Centurion Weapon System. Despite the records saying it had very limited performance the AFFS conducted a full review of the weapon and where pleasantly surprised at how well it performed. Extensive review followed which revealed the Centurion Weapon System's limitations and showed that while the SLDF may have had good cause to regard the weapon as non-viable, the changed combat environment of late 3rd Succession War with the much older average age of 'Mechs and reduced capacity to disperse heat meant that the weapons was very powerful.

Thus was born the Buccaneer-Class Piracy Tank. Wanting to disguise their new weapons power and make it as fearsome as possible and tracked vehicle chassis was selected and crews where instructed to never fire their weapons at another vehicle so that the AFFS could create a myth that the Centurion Weapon System could not be mounted on a 'Mech for fear of it's own guns disabling it when the weapons' existence inevitably leaked. Seeing as the Centurion Weapon System would require a fusion power plant and that the vehicles construction would have to take place on New Avalon the Nissan 200 used on Achernar's Enforcer and Corean Enterprises' Centurion. This choice of engine ended up setting the vehicles speed as well, while a 40 ton chassis would be faster it wouldn't allow the same level of protection while still mounted all the desired support equipment. Two Centurion Weapon System's allow the Buccaneer to either threaten two 'Mechs with shutdown at the same time or greatly increase the chances that a single 'Mech is disabled. Two SRM-4 launchers with a very generous 3 tons of ammo provide ample to increase a 'Mechs heat burden in preparation for it being hit by the Centurion Weapon Systems. A single 1-ton infantry provides space for up the 7 MechWarriors equipped with jumppacks to commandeer and 'Mechs that are disabled. Finally ten tons of armor give it protection equal to many assault 'Mechs.

That’s actually quite cool mental MechWarriors too
My three main Alternate Timeline with Thanks fan-fiction threads are in the links below. I'm always open to suggestions or additions to be incorporated so if you feel you wish to add something feel free. There's non-canon units, equipment, people, events, erm... Solar Systems spread throughout so please enjoy
