(Answered) Swordsman Special ability

Does it work like this:
Mel +1 Damage, swordsman +1 damage =  2 total additional damage
with option for Mel +1 Damage, automatic critical hit roll

Or
Mel +1 damage
Option for
NO extra damage from Mel ability but automatic Critical Hit roll

I hope my question was clear.

pilot may choose one of two options: deliver 1 extra point of
damage to the opponent, or roll one additional Critical Hit

that if the unit lacks the MEL special, the Swordsman SPA will
have no effect.
Depending on how it works I might take Dodge on my Melee specialist Mortis pilot instead of swordsman

The Swordsman extra damage is separate from the extra damage for a melee weapon attack.

So Swordsman SPA option 1 would be Physical Attack damage + 1 for melee special ability +1 for swordsman SPA.
Swordsman SPA option 2 would be Physical Attack damage +1 for melee special ability + critical hit.
