Following up on last fortnight's spotlight on the Society 'Mechs, this fortnight we'll look at another common weapon of war used by those rebellious Clan Scientists: ProtoMechs. In game, the ProtoMechs were originally deployed by Clan Smoke Jaguar to supplement their damaged Touman. Out of game, I'm not sure why they were added to the universe.
The Society used ProtoMechs to great effect - sometimes. If you'd like to learn more about using them in game, there are various articles written by members of our community, As a starting point, I'll link you to GreekFire's ProtoMech guides:
ProtoMechs were originally introduced to us for gameplay in
Technical Readout: 3060. Ral Partha sculpted ProtoMechs and originally sold them in Points of five (the 20-xxx SKUs listed below). The same sculpts are still available from Iron Wind Metals but as singles (the BT-xxx SKUs listed below).
- Centaur (20-920, BT-373)
- Gorgon (20-922, BT-375)
- Harpy (20-925, BT-378)
- Hydra (20-927, BT-380)
- Minotaur (20-923, BT-376)
- Roc (20-921, BT-374)
- Satyr (20-924, BT-377)
- Siren (20-926, BT-379)
Technical Readout: 3075 gave us the second generation of ProtoMechs. The Cecerops was the only TRO 3075 ProtoMech issued in a pack of five by IWM. The other ProtoMechs (save the Erinyes) are available singly:
- Basilisk (BT-003)
- Cecerops (20-484, BT-368)
- Chrysaor (BT-002)
- Delphyne (BT-207)
- Erinyes (no mini)
- Orc (BT-001)
- Procyon (BT-295)
- Triton (BT-208)
Technical Readout: Prototypes introduced four more ProtoMechs, two of them adaptations of existing ProtoMechs and two new Clan Hell's Horses ProtoMechs, the Procyon (Quad) and the Svartalfa. The Svartalfa has the distinction of being the only ProtoMech with an offficial mini for a variant:
- Procyon (Quad) (BT-286)
- Svartalfa (BT-283)
- Svartalfa 2 (BT-284)
The four Society ProtoMechs were featured in
The Wars of Reaving, only two of which have minis:
- Basilisk (Quad) (no mini)
- Boggart (BT-277)
- Hobgoblin (no mini)
- Sprite (BT-285)
Finally,
Technical Readout: 3145 Mercenaries included the Hippogriff ProtoMech (reprinted in
Technical Readout: 3150) which does not yet have a sculpt.
If you have any of these ProtoMechs painted, please share pictures. We'd love to see them!
As always, thank you for reading and a special thank you to those who will post.
Our next two fortnights will be:
- 7/20: Cicada
- 8/3: UrbanMech and UrbanMech IIC
