T series patrol ships.
« on: 19 November 2019, 17:00:40 »
Author note: built these in relation to my recent AU design challenge, but they're generic enough to be usable beyond that. Wrote the fluff to be marketing copy, so you don't have to tell me that the T-90 would actually be hard pressed against even a small warship :P

For your consideration, three small combat jumpships suitable for short range patrol and escort duties as well as general system defense and security. For a basic budget model, we have the T-50 series, a basic fifty thousand ton hull designed to be quick and powerful enough to deter all but the best armed pirates and raiders, featuring the standard all around point defense system as well as three capital class and four standard class weapon blisters, in the base model configured for range and munitions independence. A good budget option and starter vessel for those states that don't feel they will require the flexibility or expandability of the other models. Even so, optional upgrades exist, including variations on the capital weapon array, such as the five or ten barrel "hedgehog" subcapital laser blister.

As an intermediate offering we have the T-70 series, based on a lengthened T-50 hull. This offers the same weapons and support capabilities as the T-50 while also featuring expanded fuel tankage and cargo (and thus upgrade) capacity, as well as superior armor protection and most importantly of all, a docking collar to allow transport of a supporting dropship, thus expanding the ship's flexibility even further.

Finally, we have the T-90 series, designed as a dedicated heavy escort and combat vessel. This class actually features a slightly smaller transit drive than the smaller T-70 series to allow for greater focus on firepower. Not only does the T-90 double the capital firepower of the smaller models, but it also features four blisters for an intermediate battery of subcapital weapons (in the baseline model using a "mini-hedgehog" array of five subcapital lasers in each blister). Though it features all the endurance improvements of the T-70 as well, this is a hard hitting ship meant to engage pocket warships and even small warships on a relatively equal footing.

Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

+1 for NL-45s!
+2 for adequate Point Defense!

-1 for no grav decks combined with tiny fuel loads... that's a lot of zero-g for the crew...

There's enough fuel for a month's worth of continuous acceleration, given their small size, with hefty tankage left over, so the Marketing department is confident it can legally say the T-series fuel supply is adequate for standard duration patrol.

From a realistic standpoint, any amount of sustained flight operations or maneuvering is going to eat into that tankage a lot faster, so one would probably need to plan and budget for regular refueling stops and possibly dedicated support tenders to keep them stocked, and it might be worthwhile to pay for upgraded tankage and a gravity deck.

For a six month patrol or greater you'd definitely need a tender. The same company also produces Merchant class jumpships and tanker conversion Mule class dropships for all your extended patrol needs.  ;D

More on topic, a T-50 or T-70 extended range model would probably drop the thrust for more fuel, cargo, and a small grav deck.

T-50 (ER) and T-70 (ER) I think. Since the model number is derived from tonnage, marketing would worry about confusing the consumers.
