Feature question: Blocking specific users
« on: 04 August 2011, 23:05:22 »
Maybe it's a feature request, but I'm not sure if it already exists. Do we have any kind of "blocked" list? Something that filters out a user's posts if you add them to your own list? Is that possible or even feasible?

Not any built-in way, no. And probably not likely to be added, as it would require a mod to SMF, which is not something that is going to happen here unless it's important. Which this is not.

That being said, and depending on your browser, there are ways to roll your own. Check the forum archives for a Greasemonkey script I wrote a year or two ago that does what you're asking. IIRC, it will work in Firefox and, with some slight adjustments, Safari and IE as well.

That wouldn't help me much then. I'm using Chrome.  :)

It's in this version.

Profile > Modify Profile > Buddy/Ignore List

Put the user's name in the list and the content of their posts is replaced by a "Show me" link. You can see that the person posts, but not the contents of the post.

Oh, that's new. I stand corrected, then.
