Glorious... And something I could never write (literally... the government can in fact recall retired officers for UCMJ violations, and I'm not willing to face prison time for speaking my mind). I've got one more tour after this one (which might be an extension of the current one, assuming I'm successful in my current efforts). You can go home knowing that star on the horizon is a sunrise, not a sunset. I look forward to your future posts, but you may want to give that letter one final editing pass before you hit "send". I know what you meant to say, but I can't say the same for the audience you are addressing. Call it arrogance, but I'm 100% certain I'm reading your letter more closely than any of them will. :thumbsup:

I found your retirement letter motivational. I have spent the summer unemployed with the goal of switching from being an IT Project Manager to commercial pilot. And I feel like your letter validates my decision on this. I am also tired of putting together power points that don't get read, forwarding emails, and on and on. Thank you.

This actually hit me hard. When I retired from the Navy (almost a decade ago now), I will admit I was at least, privately angry because of certain individuals in my last command who I felt prevented me from gaining certain qualifications or just hogging key positions/collateral duties that would have made my chances for advancement at least possible. If it wasn't for the circumstances that led me to meeting my future wife... IDK where or IF I would be typing this comment today... It'll be 10 years in January that I last took the advancement test so the details are vague... but I'm pretty sure I Christmas tree' d the test.
