My attempt to make the Mjolnir suck less.

Overview:
The Mjolnir Forseti was developed by the LCAF as a replacement configuration for the
Mjolnir BattleMechs they had in service. By changing the weapons fit, engineers
hoped to make it more effective in its role.

Since the 'Mech lost the mace and replaced it with a hatchet, engineers took to
calling it the "Forseti" after the axe carried by the Norse god of
reconciliation.

Capabilities:
Starting with the MLR-BX as a baseline, Arc-Royal MechWorks engineers removed
all the weapons from the chassis, including the mace that inspired the 'Mech's
name originally. They then fitted a hatchet derived from the Scarabus 'Mech and
mounted a single ER Medium Laser under the cockpit.

The biggest change came in the form of a stack of five Small X-Pulse Lasers
mounted in the left arm. Reminiscent of the Scarabus' "laser quad pack" these
weapons allow the 'Mech to effectively increase its heat level to the point
that the TSM activates. Their range matches that of an ER Small Laser but have
a greater chance to hit an enemy and are effective against infantry as well.

Variants:
The Mjolnir Jarngreipr is an experimental refit that replaces the standard
Mjolnir's hand actuators with two Claws. Two Small X-Pulse Lasers are also
mounted in each arm.

The Mjolnir Gungnir carries a 'Mech Lance on each arm.

Why don't you try a Dark Age varient . TSEMP ? Keep the Mace if the TSEMP immobilizes the target that more than makes up for jump penalty .

I played around with a jump jet-less version with a Light Engine and a Supercharger. The armor was switched to Light Ferro and the chassis to Endo-Composite. The armaments were substantially increased. It worked pretty well in the few tests it did in MegaMek.

Is it bad that my idea of an upgrade is to remove the melee weapon and replace it and the ERML with a LPPC?
Want to keep the god of thunder motif? Use PPC lightning for crying out loud.

this one is a bit speculative.. i don't usually do TSM or melee units.

armor is switched to standard, and upped by a half ton so it gives equal protection. mace and TSM remain (a concession to the original), but the structure and engine have been upgraded to Endo and XL, freeing up enough room to mount a Light PPC centerline and replace the existing lasers with a trio of ERSmalls, mounted in the opposite arm to the mace. it relies on jumping and firing either its LPPC or ERSL's as it closes to get the heat into that sweet spot, but since the TSm mainly exists for the melee boost, that shouldn't be a huge issue.

I flipped the question.  Instead of "how do I polish this 25 ton turd?" I asked, "Lets make a mace-wielding head-capper that doesn't suck."  That means AES in the arm and legs to deal with the mace penalties. Which means no TSM, which meant scaling up to 45 tons to still swing for 12 damage. Supercharger for speed and a snubbie backed by paired ER mediums.

There was an earlier incarnation with a bit more armor, and a LFE, rather than the XL, but that lacked in ranged weapons. I thought about light PPC but that 3 hex minimum seemed like a problem for a machine that is built to fight nose-to-nose.

Apollo's Law- if it needs Clan tech to make it useable, It doesn't deserve those resources in the first place.
Sure it isn't the most practical 'mech ever designed, but it's a hundred ton axe-murderer. If loving that is wrong I don't wanna be right.

There was an earlier incarnation with a bit more armor, and a LFE, rather than the XL, but that lacked in ranged weapons. I thought about light PPC but that 3 hex minimum seemed like a problem for a machine that is built to fight nose-to-nose.
i went with a light PPC on the principle that i was also giving it a strong up-close suite of weapons in the ERSL's, and that by having the LPPC it can do at least some damage to targets as it closes, or to those faster lights which it can't quite catch. i never was a believer in hyper-specialized melee machines. i had considered a brace of ERML's but while those might have been better optimized damage and range wise, they were harder to heat balance.

Overview:
This Mjolnir variant trades the standard equipment for a pair of swords and
three small ER  lasers. The standard cockpit is removed and replaced by a Drone
Operating System in a small cockpit. This system allows the unit to be
controlled remotely, allowing an unskilled pilot to participate without risking
their lives.


The communications system is protected by a Guardian ECM Suite, so control of
the drone OS will not be interrupted. The use of Swords allows the Mjolnir to

Overview:
The Mjolnir-Urban Defender is a prototype design intended to support the defense of cities and other tight terrain. The largely anti-infantry weapons configuration is also relatively effective against 'Mechs and vehicles, but not as effective as heavier weapons. For this reason, current doctrine calls for the Mjolnir-UD to operate as part of a team with other urban defense specialists like the Eisenfaust, Hatchetman, and Hunchback.

Capabilities:
The standard lasers were removed and replaced by two flamers and a pair of machine guns. In addition, the XL Gyro normally used by the Mjolnir-B series was replaced with a standard gyro.

Though marginally more effective in battle, the different weapons configuration makes it more difficult to activate the TSM. In fact an earlier prototype that used light machine guns exclusively was nearly impossible to get hot enough to activate the TSM. As the test pilots didn't view taking enemy fire as a valid option, engineers swapped them out for standard machine guns and two flamers.

The machine gun ammo is stored in a CASE-protected bay, and the jump jets and high ground speed allow the 'Mech to move effectively in cities.

Is it bad that my idea of an upgrade is to remove the melee weapon and replace it and the ERML with a LPPC?
Want to keep the god of thunder motif? Use PPC lightning for crying out loud.

Assuming you give Mjolnirs to rookies with a good piloting but bad gunners skill... A small cockpit isn't a big problem in that case, but pulse lasers are a must:

Hmmm, when we are so small, to me, only one weapon system fits for melee...

As it turns out, the Medium Vibroblade does moar damage than even the mace does and its more accurate... Of course you can't use TSM with it, so lets go with a MASC system to let us CHARGE!

Inactive vibroblades have a cap on their damage.  Otherwise an Atlas could use a 3 ton small vibro just like a full size sword but save on weight and crits.  Dunno how that works with TSM.
