This thread is for all issues and problems with the revised edition of Campaign Operations first produced in 2021.  The revision has a higher (256) page count and different cover art.

Product Link: https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/battletech-campaign-operations-pdf

There are four printings of Campaign Operations - be sure to cite which release you're working from (you can check page 5 to see the actual printing number):
2016 (Marauder cover; 192-page edition; obsolete)
2021 (Mercenaries/classic reprint cover)
2021 (Archer cover)
2023 (Archer cover)

Current errata version is 4.0, and can be found here:
https://bg.battletech.com/errata/

This thread is only for reporting errata for the current 256-page edition of Campaign Operations (the second printing and later).  We are no longer accepting errata for the older printing.  The previous edition's errata thread (now locked) can be found here:
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/errata/campaign-operations/

Please remember to follow the errata report template when reporting issues.  Thanks.

Developer-Level Errata
In case of any contradiction, developer-level errata takes precedence over the current errata document.

None.

2021 Corrected Second Printing pdf

Here are the page reference errors to TO: AR, TO: AUE, SO: AAR (Strategic Operations: Advanced Aerospace Rules - referred to as just SO in the CO pdf), CO and AS: CE pdfs I've found in the CO Corrected Second Printing pdf. Plus a couple other problems I've found while looking for page reference errors. Other pdfs used are:
- TO: AR 2020 Corrected Fourth Printing pdf,
- TO: AUE 2020 Corrected Fourth Printing pdf,
- SO: AAR 2021 Corrected Third Printing pdf,
- AS: CE 2019 Corrected Second Printing pdf (at least on p. 5 it is labeled like that; both file's name and metadata say it is actually from January 2020).

Note that:
1. putting together this report took me a good part of two days, but considering the number of references to check and amount of pdfs to check them in it is still entirely possible that I've missed penty of errors,
2. I have not checked page references to books other than TO: AR, TO: AUE, SO: AAR and CO, and AS: CE under assumption that since everything in TW, TM, AToW, AToWC, IO, and ASC rulebooks, or any other books referenced in CO remained mostly on the same pages since first release, there is a much lower chance that references to these books were broken by recent changes in core rulebooks line (not to mention that I don't have some of these "other" non-rulebooks),
3. I have not checked the table of contents and the index.

P. 7, (technically a problem with multiple pages in the book, but in my opinion easiest to fix on page 7, as explained below)

Problem: CO makes multiple references to ASC without defining this acronym.
Recommendation: Explain that ASC stands for Alpha Strike Companion. Possibly in the section dedicated to the Campaign Operations book on p. 7, in the sentence that explains that AS:CE stands for Alpha Strike: Commander’s Edition.

P. 24, Fourth full paragraph in the right column

Fuel costs are listed on page 202, SO.
change to:
Fuel costs are listed on page 202.

P. 46, first paragraph in the CONTRACT BREACHES AND MISSION FAILURES section

(see Combat Record Rating, p. 33).
change to:
(see Combat Record Rating, p. 35).

NOTE - many, but not all mentions of SPAs on pp. 61-68 come with appropriate page references. I assume that all SPAs on these pages should come with such references).

P. 62 Bonus Ability paragraph under Anvil Lance

Sandblaster or Cluster Hitter Special Pilot Ability.
change to:
Sandblaster or Cluster Hitter Special Pilot Ability (see pp. 79 and 73, respectively).

P. 62 Bonus Ability paragraph under Hunter Lance

Combat Intuition SPA.
change to:
Combat Intuition SPA (see p. 73)

Zweihander or Swordsman SPA.
change to:
Zweihander or Swordsman SPA (see pp. 82 and 80, respectively).

P. 63 Bonus Ability section under Command Lance

Antagonizer, Combat Intuition, Blood Stalker, Eagle Eyes, Marksman, or Multi-Tasker.
In addition to this, the commander’s unit receives the Tactical Genius SPA.
change to:

In addition to this, the commander’s unit receives the Tactical Genius SPA (see p. 80).

P. 63 Bonus Ability paragraph under Order Lance

Tactical Genius, Antagonizer or Sniper SPA. All units in the Formation receive the Iron Will or Speed Demon SPA;
change to:
Tactical Genius, Antagonizer or Sniper SPA (see pp. 73 and 80). All units in the Formation receive the Iron Will or Speed Demon SPA (see pp. 76 and 80, respectively);

P. 65 Bonus Ability paragraph under Security Lance

Terrain Master or Environmental Specialist SPA
change to:
Terrain Master or Environmental Specialist SPA (see pp. 81 and 74, respectively)

P. 66 Bonus Ability paragraph under Hammer Lance

Jumping Jack or Speed Demon SPA.
change to:
Jumping Jack or Speed Demon SPA (see pp. 76 and 80, respectively).

P. 66 Bonus Ability paragraph under Ranger Lance

change to:

P. 67 Bonus Ability paragraph under Urban Combat Lance

Street Fighter (if ’Mech or ProtoMech) or Urban Guerrilla (if infantry) SPAs. Vehicles recieve the equivalent of 1-point of Luck and a one-time use of the Marksman SPA.
change to (note spelling mistake in "receive"):
Street Fighter (if ’Mech or ProtoMech) or Urban Guerrilla (if infantry) SPAs (see pp. 80 and 82, respectively). Vehicles receive the equivalent of 1-point of Luck and a one-time use of the Marksman SPA (see p. 77).

change to:

P. 152, MAP-SCALE TURNS section

(see Multi-Force Campaigns, p. 155),
change to:
(see Multi-Force Campaigns, p. 159),

P. 165 SUPPLY TABLE COST (WP)

Recommendation: Change the name of the table to "SUPPLY COST TABLE (WP)".

Pp. 174-177 OPTIONS TABLE

Problem 1.: As far as I can see the table lacks an option allowing for a fight in extreme cold, without snowfall.
Recommendation 1.: Either add such option, or rename Sweltering option (p. 177) to something like Extreme Temperature.

Problem 2.: Inconsistencies and missing options involving snowfall.
Recommendation 2.: Consider removing extreme temperature effects from Moderate Snowfall (p. 177) to put it in line with  and Whiteout (p. 177) options (and vice versa), explicitly say if Blizzard (p. 174) should include such effects. Either add at least Light Snowfall and Heavy Snowfall (and possibly also Sleet and/or Snow Flurries - see p. 58 TO:AR, note that Ice Storm on that page is already covered under Blizzard option on p. 174) to the table, or rename Moderate Rainfall option to just "Snowfall".

P. 175, Details columns of Dusk/Dawn option

All units suffer a +1 modifier to hit to all weapons fire (see p. 56, TO:AR, p. 157, AS:CE).
change to:
All units suffer a +1 modifier to hit to all weapons fire (see p. 56, TO:AR, pp. 62 and 157, AS:CE).

P. 175, Details columns of Heavy Rainfall option

Apply a +1 modifier to hit to all weapons fire and a +1 Piloting/Driving Skill modifier (see p. 57, TO:AR). Mud (see p. 48, TO:AR or p. 60, AS:CE) is as indicated.
should probably be changed to (compare to Light Rainfall entry on p. 176):
Apply a +1 modifier to hit to all weapons fire and a +1 Piloting/Driving Skill modifier (see p. 57, TO:AR, pp. 58 and 157, AS:CE). Mud (see p. 48, TO:AR or p. 60, AS:CE) is as indicated.

P. 176, Details column of Light Fog option

All hexes cost an extra 1 MP to enter (see pp. 58 and 157, TO:AR).
change to:
All hexes cost an extra 1 MP to enter (see p. 55, TO:AR or pp. 58 and 157, AS:CE).

P. 176, Details columns of Moderate Rainfall option

Apply a +1 modifier to hit to all weapons fire (see p. 57, TO:AR or p. 58, AS:CE).
should probably be changed to (since even Light Rainfall listed on the same page refers to p. 157, AS:CE):
Apply a +1 modifier to hit to all weapons fire (see p. 57, TO:AR, pp. 58 and 157, AS:CE).

P. 176, Details columns of Moderate Snowfall option

(see pp. 58 and 60, TO:AR or pp. 62-63, AS:CE).
should probably be changed to (compare to Blizzard on p. 174 and Whiteout on p. 177):
(see pp. 58 and 60, TO:AR or pp. 58, 62-63 and 157, AS:CE).

P. 176, Details columns of Night Combat option

A lack of ambient light degrades the ability of BattleMechs to target and hit an opposing unit. Apply a +2 To-hit
modifier to all weapon attacks.
should probably either be changed to:
A lack of ambient light degrades the ability of BattleMechs to target and hit an opposing unit. Apply a +2 To-hit
modifier to all weapon attacks. (see p. 56, TO:AR or pp. 62 and 157 AS:CE).
...or removed completely, because it essentially duplicates Under the Full Moon option on p. 177, just with WP reward limits taken from Nightfall option instead. On that note you may also want to tweak WP rewards of Nightfall and Under the Full Moon options, as it doesn't seem right that Full Moon, which is a "weaker" effect, gives a higher reward than Moonless Night or Night/Pitch Black, which are "stronger" effects.

P. 176, Details columns of Nightfall option

Use the Moonless Night and Night/Pitch Black rules (see p. 56, TO:AR or p. 62, AS:CE).
should probably be changed to:
Use the Moonless Night and Night/Pitch Black rules (see p. 56, TO:AR or pp. 62 and 157 AS:CE).

P. 177, Details column of Under the Full Moon option

Use the Full Moon rules (see p. 56, TO:AR or Night rules p. 58, AS:CE).
change to:
Use the Full Moon rules (see p. 56, TO:AR or Night rules pp. 62 and 157, AS:CE).

P. 183, Details column of Shielding option

Both sides are using the Shielding rules (see p. 17, SO or p. 172, AS:CE)
change to:
Both sides are using the Shielding rules (see p. 17, TO:AR or p. 172, AS:CE)

P. 215, first paragraph on the page

Tractors (see Tractors, p. 205, TW; and Vehicles, p. 17, TO:AUE)
change to:
Tractors (see Tractors, p. 205, TW; and Rail, p. 17, TO:AUE)

P. 215, second paragraph on the page

Salvage Quality Equipment Table (see p. 192).
change to:
Salvage Quality Equipment Table (see below).

P. 252 SPECIAL COMMAND ABILITIES table

Problem 1.: The table is missing a page reference in its upper right corner.
Recommendation 1.: To be consistent with how UNIT ROLES TABLE, AEROSPACE ONLY FORMATIONS TABLE, FORMATIONS TABLE, and SPECIAL PILOT ABILITIES table on pp. 249-252 are treated, add a reference to P. 83 in the corner.

Problem 2.: Berserkers ability lacks a page reference.
Recommendation 2.: Add a reference to page 83 in the Page Reference column.

P. 253 SUPPLY TABLE COST (WP)

Recommendation: Change the name of the table to "SUPPLY COST TABLE (WP)".

Pages 92-97, ISW Combat Command Conversion Tables (All Factions), ACS Combat Unit Conversion Tables.

According to the Conversion Rules in Interstellar operation (see quote below) the Jump values from the ACS Combat Team/SBF Formation Conversion Table have been incorrectly applied to all TMM values (the 3 divisor has been missed).

Quote from page 330, Interstellar Operations, STEP 3D, “JUMP: Average together the JUMP of the Combat Teams and divide the result by 3 (round normal). And add this to the TMM below.”

All Infantry Regiments should have a TMM of 2.

ACS Combat Team/SBF Formation Conversion Table the Capellan Confederation and Draconis Combine Infantry Battalions should have a TMM of 2

Per Cray's request when I "asked the writers":

Page 133:
Looking over the "Other Features" section of the System Generation rules, the table make it seem "Other Periphery" worlds can have a Class B HPG, Class C courier service (once every three months), or nothing at all.  This oddly skips Class D courier service (once per year).

The easiest fix would appear to be to break 10 out of the 3-10 row in the table and assigning that to Class D.  The other columns would simply repeat the entries for the current 3-10.

The column inches are definitely there to support making that change given the blank space at the bottom of the page.

p86, Special Pilot Ability Specialization
rename this to Focus (Special Ability Name) and move to before Forcing the Initiative p85.
Replace text for this SCA with
"During setup, the Force may assign one Unit out of every four (round down) the Special Pilot Ability listed in parenthesis. This Special Command Ability may be taken a second time to give twice the number of SPAs, but only one SPA can be given by this Special Command Ability per Unit. If the Combat Command has two different SPA Command Abilities, it cannot give both SPAs to the same unit."

pg 57 Brawler [unit type]

The Warhammer and Myrmidon Heavy Tank are examples of Brawlers.

I cannot find any example of a Myrmidon Heavy Tank in the MUL, TROs, etc, only the Medium Tank, text should be changed to Myrmidon Medium Tank

I'd say the text refers to the Manticore Heavy Tank which is a brawler.

That'd make more sense as well...assuming there isn;t a phantom Myrmidon heavy Tank out there I don;t know ;) - Cause Myrmidon is Skirmisher

Campaign Operations 2nd Print (2021 revised) PDF

Page 107, "Distribution of Moons and Rings"

The third bullet point instructions state that "Moon placement ignores moons of differing size classes unless orbital slots overlap, in which case the smaller moon’s slot is moved outward by a spacing equal to the smaller moon’s interval."

whereas the example for the section states that "Because of the overlap at 50,000 kilometers, the fifth of the small moons would be bumped outward by a medium moon’s orbit (by 50,000 kilometers to 100,000 kilometers)"

Revised Printing PDF, Pg 33

Problem: Missing closed parenthesis

"(i.e., anything except JumpShips, administrators, and technical personnel; count each infantry or battle armor squad as a single combatant unit."

Solution: Add a parenthesis after unit

The bullet point instructions are incorrect and need to be updated to match the example. They should be:

the smaller moon’s slot is moved outward by a spacing equal to the larger moon’s interval."

Revised printing:

p. 61, "Variations" subsection (top left column) -- add the bold/bracketed text: "Furthermore, variant Formations must meet their stated requirements; [unless specifically listed,] ideal Unit Roles do not apply."
(reason is because Anvil, Hammer, Ranger, and Hunter Formations all have ideal Unit Roles but are variant Formations)

p. 62, Battle Lance description (right column) -- add the bold/bracketed text: "The Battle Lance has five variants: the Light Battle Lance, Medium Battle Lance, Heavy Battle Lance, [Rifle Lance,] and the Berserker/Close Combat Lance."

p. 80, Sniper description (right column) -- delete bold/crossed out text: "The Sniper Special Pilot Ability reduces the Medium and Long Range Attack modifiers by half, so an attack delivered at Medium, Long or Extreme ranges applies a +1 To-Hit Modifier at Medium Range..."

p. 165-167, Tech Rating (Modifier) description -- the numerical example for the Tech Rating is correct, but the table labeling & description is confusing. I think the following changes would make the table listings on p. 167 consistent with the text and example on pp. 165-66:
  • Equipment Rating Table (p. 167, bottom left) -- change "Equipment Rating" to "Technology Rating"
  • Equipment Rating Table (p. 167, bottom left) -- change "Technology Rating Modifier" to "Equipment Rating"
  • p. 166 (bottom left column) -- add the bold/bracketed text and remove the bold/crossed out text: "As this is less than 85 percent, the [Force] therefore has a B [Equipment] Rating Modifier."
  • p. 166 (top right column) -- add bold/bracketed text: "Finally, multiply the available WP by the Base Force Size Modifier and then by [the appropriate modifier in the] Technology Rating Modifier Table to determine..."

p. 219, Fatigue Ratings Table -- modifier for Force Quality = Green is "-0." I am guessing that it should be "-1." (as in the Morale Ratings Table)

Currently the Customization Rules in CO don't cover adding Power Amplifiers to vehicles. Since that requires tinkering with the vehicle's engine, I'd like to propose the following change:
CO Second Printing, Page 211:
Update from:
Class C: Adding one or more components to a location where nothing was removed in the same refit. Moving a component to another location (a move takes precedence over Class B).

to

May I suggest a small change since other unit types can use engines that may require power amplifiers?

p228, correct third printing.

The Scout Bike footnote on the Positive Quirk Table states "Combat Hover and Tracked Vehicles only".

Change to "Combat Hover and Wheeled Vehicles only" to match the text entry on p230.

Campaign Operations: 3rd Edition

MASTER REPAIR TABLE, page 205:

Under [Replacements/Vehicles/Omni Vehicle Pod (per location)]:  The Skill Modifier* should be -2 not 0.

It is printed correctly for OmniMechs and OmniFighters, but the wrong modifier is listed for OmniVehicles.  It also looks like "Omni Vehicle" needs to be made one word instead of two for this entry.

MASTER REPAIR TABLE, page 206:

Does the entry under [Replacements/Large Craft, continued/OmniFighter Pod (per location)] need to be deleted?  I didn't think Large Craft could be made with Omnitech.

Under [Replacements/Aerospace (Small Units—fighters, small craft, satellites, fixed-wing craft, and airships)/Omnifighter Pod (per location)]: "Omnifighter" should be spelled "OmniFighter" with a capital "F".

Corrected third printing p199

Under diagnosis, mech, leg section

Quote
If players are tracking the quality
of individual components, everything in the leg will drop to the
next Quality Rating (if the limb has been picked up and used as
a club in a successful physical attack, reduce the Quality Rating
of all components in the arm by two levels).

Change arm to leg.

Corrected third printing, page 193

Issue: Double-asterisk footnote indicates that the Mobile Field Base equipment (with reference to TO:AUE) automatically applies the Field Workshop location modifier. However, this thread indicates that the MFB ought to be the equivalent of a transport bay, i.e. it should provide the Facility-Basic location modifier.

Solution:
Change the double-asterisk footnote to "Basic tool access, dedicated maintenance vehicle mounting Salvage Arm, Lift Hoist, and so on, but still variable lighting and minimal protection against the elements."
Change the single-dagger footnote to "Complete shelter. Ideal lighting, all standard tools and unit-appropriate gantries. Includes transport bays specific to that unit type and the Mobile Field Base equipment (see p. 142, TO:AUE)."

It is possible this change was intentional, but merely acting as the equivalent of a Lift Hoist or Salvage Arm makes the Mobile Field Base unreasonably heavy in comparison, especially since it has zero effect outside of the maintenance rules.

Campaign Operations, corrected 3rd printing, page 123, Planetary Population Table

It is in Solar System Generation -> COLONY CREATION -> Step 1: Population -> Population -> Planetary Population Table, bottom half

The line for "Gravity 1.5-2Gs" has a modifier of "x.05".

It should be "x0.5"

This is per Cray's answer here:
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/supplementary-rules/co-planet-condition-of-1-5-2gs-gravity-means-modifier-of-05-or-0-5/msg1919794/#msg1919794

Or with the new forum setup:
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,80393.0.html, and go to Cray's post on 2023-March-20.

(For those not logged in, go to "Catalyst Game Labs" -> "Supplementary Rules" -> and look for the topic titled "CO - Planet Condition of 1.5-2Gs gravity means Modifier of .05 or 0.5 ?" where the last post was 2023 March 21)

1st and 3rd printing, probably also in 2nd.

p41
Quote
...have a total modifier of –3 (0 for Major Power, –2
for a Controlling Employer, –1 for Reputation 6). If the player then
rolls a 6 on the Supplemental Contract Terms Table for command
rights, the result becomes 3 (6 + –3 = 3), and thus...

Reputation 6 should be +1 (Rep Trait table p42)

Change statement to:
Quote
have a total modifier of -1 (0 for Major Power, -2 for Controlling Employer, +1 for Reputation 6)... the result becomes 5 (6 + -1 = 5)
No change after the math, result remains House command.

p. 35, Transportation rating is:

Quote
To determine a Force’s Transportation
Rating, first determine if the Force’s own transports (only
DropShuttles, DropShips, JumpShips, and WarShips) are
sufficient to convey the Force

This ignores some vehicles that could be equipped with bays, such as smallcraft and large support vehicles. Recommended rewording:

Quote
To determine a Force’s Transportation Rating, first determine if the Force’s own transports (DropShips, JumpShips, WarShips, and other bay-equipped vehicles able to transport the Force to a contract's destination) are sufficient to convey the Force

2021 Printing
p. 212

Under Factory Refits:
"Class F: Adding a new turret. Changing internal structure type or myomer type (the last two have base replacement times of 360 minutes). Altering fixed components on an Omni unit."
And in the following section Omni Technology first paragraph:
"Omni units can have their fixed equipment altered, or removed to make more pod space, by following the procedures outlined above. However, any such change is a Class F refit."

There are two different words used here and a potential hole in the rules that should be considered. What level of refit is changing an Omni's armor type? Armor is not equipment in most of the repair rules, so changing the Class F Refit section to equipment creates a hole where changing an Omni's armor would presumably become a Class A refit. Also, what is the intended level of refit for moving a fixed critical like ferro-fibrous armor on an omni, but not changing armor type?

I would recommend changing the second instance to "component" and clarifying "component" means everything, armor, heatsinks, occupied slots, etc.

CORRECTED THIRD PRINTING

REPUTATION RATING

This term is used six times in the book:

Pages 37-twice
Page 40-once
Page 43-once
Page 48-twice

However never once does the book define what it is, but through reading it appears this is actually the REPUTATION SCORE as defined on Page 33.

Suggest all references to REPUTATION RATING be changed to REPUTATION SCORE for consistency.
