Cavalry (XL)
« on: 29 September 2024, 23:21:09 »
I was trying to come up with a reason to use the 160XL engine outside of the Royal Locust.

I thought, hmm, the Cavalry (Infantry) could get Faster & have some Interdiction gear instead of MGs for the Jihad era.

And so I give you the Cavalry (XL), all the Infantry + More Sneaky EW Stuffs.

689 BV is really low for this, it would make a great support transport.  It can do a lot of jobs, from transport, tag spotting, ecm interdiction, and c3 rangemaster.  My only complaint, if you can call it that, is the ER mediums date it later in the timeline.

Cheese my friend,  CHEESE.

Okay, so in years of play since TW came out they have crits in each location & having something there soaks some crits that would otherwise keep moving down the row to something even juicier.

While typically this will cause people to put an MG in each side etc etc.   But, does it have to be a gun?
Soooo, I started thinking that Electronics would be good to stick in the Nose/Rear of things that don't have a Nose/Rear gun  :)

True, but the Cavalry itself is only a 3050's design, and the "Infantry" variant that this is a further variant of is like 3063 IIRC from looking it up yesterday.
So this is a logical step being a few years later.

I also wanted it a bit later since in the Jihad they came out with some "Interdictor" variants of things  (Sprint/Savannah Master off the top of my head).

So in addition to being "Faster" w/ the XL, it also slides into the higher use of C3/C3i.

3066-67 range feels good for this,  I was actually going to go a couple years later & use Heavy Ferro, but then I realized I had to slots left so basic Ferro it is.

Weirdly, I don't see it as a Jihad version so much as a "Let's keep the factory open during Stone's "Peace" design-the non-combat systems and the spendier engine make sense in the era of formal disarmament, and an infantry chopper with survival upgrades is still going to be a fantastic ride for th kind of utility applications in peacetime a VTOL can fill (search and rescue, urban crime monitoring and response, executive transport, and so on.)

just putting that out there.

Hah!  I'm so glad you said that because while I was designing it specifically as a use for the 160XL, I thought along those lines, thinking this would be perfect for the whole "Fewer But Better" concept of the Republic.
It's not the fluff I was going for but I had the same realization.
