some scratchbuilt buildings
« on: 15 July 2024, 14:05:56 »
Hey everyone! I want to share some pics of these scratchbuilds I made from wooden blocks from the craft store and a polystyrene sheet from the hobby store. I was going for a low-tech, resource-poor vibe that could fit in on pretty much any table. I got impatient with the windows, but I like the colors and the way the roofs came out.

And here is a helipad with outbuilding, using another wooden block and a beer coaster.

These buildings are looking great! I really like the low tech vibe. Can you please describe how you made the rooftops? They are what lets them stand out.

Thanks!

I cut the roofs from V-groove sheet styrene (.040-inch/1.0 mm spacing, .020 inch/0.5 mm thickness) from Evergreen Scale Models. After priming, I then painted them with a metallic gunmetal, applied a black wash, use a sponge to dab on some burt umber and orange to simulate rust, and then lightly drybrushed silver.

Nice! Thank you. Judging from the pictures I thought you could have used a wash like rust from Modelmates.

Thanks, everyone!

The blocks are about 15 mm on each side. The helipad was weathered with washes and then stippling some gray paint over it.

I always liked scratch's. They are always something different from printed clones.

Very nice Low Tech buildings
