NFL 2018-2019, We'll all miss Ed Hochuli's guns
« on: 09 March 2018, 08:33:15 »
Well, the draft season has begun, it's time for a new thread for a new season. The trades have been crazy despite the fact that nothing can officially be done for almost another week!

The 2018 season may lack Ed Hochuli, but the NFL is still best known as the league that gave us Jason Kelce.

There are a number of players that could still wind up in some interesting places yet as far as trades.

This is going to be a long year as a Seahawk fan. To elaborate, most of the Legion of Boom is likely to be gone, I've heard Jimmy Graham is out the door....and I don't see any real replacements.

The Legion of Boom hasn't been that great for a while now and keeping that many guys together with their salary cap was going to prove impossible anyway.

Jimmy Graham leaving, well that probably should have happened sooner.  He never really fit with Seattle too well.

Unfortunately, this thread isn't official until March 14th.  Posting until then is merely by spoken agreement. ;)

Plus he's coming off surgeries to both Achilles tendons. It would be safe to guess that he's lost a step or two.

Dang Sam Bradford...$134 million for only 101 TD passes and 80 starts. That guy knows how to make money.

No kidding on Bradford.  He was somewhat of a bust for the Vikings.  9 wins in the last 2 seasons...

Bradford is a good quarterback when he's not injured... which unfortunately is not often. I'm convinced his knee ligaments are actually just rubber bands.

Also remember Sam "Hero at the Bank" Bradford was the last #1 overall quarterback to get a contract without the new rookie pay scale rules. Get paid, young man, get paid.

I dont disagree with how good he is, and was happy when he first came to Vikes.  Its just that he didnt work out so well here.  Due to a variety of factors. I have coworkers claiming that Kirk is our next franchise QB.  However we really havent had that long run franchise QB since Tarkenton.

Daunte Culpepper and Randall Cunningham are two guys who stuck around for more than three years iirc. And it's Tarkenton.

Cleveland wins this year?

I'm going to be an optimist and say four.

I like some of their changes, honestly. I don't like others. And of course, Joe Thomas' leaving is a tragedy for both the Browns and for fans of great football players in-general.

Anything is an improvement, I suppose. Call it 3-13 with a few close losses thrown in. Here's hoping there's finally some signs of life here, because it's hard to believe that this team can continue to be this awful year after year.

Article earlier was talking about Thomas, saying he never played in a playoff game, and finished on a team over .500 once. The author concluded that he is likely to be remembered as 'not just the sole shining light in Cleveland over the past two decades, but will also go down as the first player to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer without ever playing for a professional franchise."

Well, the first round was interesting. After all the experts identified where the trades were likely to happen...they went in different spots. Definately some head scratchers with the Saints throwing next year's #1 for a developmental pass rusher, the Seahwks grabbing a third-round running back in the first and the Steelers snagging Kiper's 8th rated safety just so he could go in the same round as his brother.

My hat's off to the Chargers, though, who just sat there and got a great safety at 17. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

The guys on the broadcast noted that the first WR acquired through the draft was Martavious Bryant when the Steelers traded him for a third-round pick about midway through the first round.

I'm just happy that the Bears GM has finally drafted a football player in the 1st round, unlike his previous picks which were all projects. You have to take in what little victories you got...

The Buffalo fan base is pretty divided on Josh Allen, and on whether they needed to trade up slots to ensure they got him.  Since I don't follow college sports, I have no concrete position; I'm just glad they got a first round QB.  I hope he learns from AJ and comes out a franchise player in a year or two.

Baker Mayfield owns and the Browns earned my support the moment they made Sam Darnold's face look like that.

The Browns have several systemic fundamental problems that can't be fixed just by finding the right QB.
