Battletechpallooza IIc Nova cats vs. Comguard
« on: 09 November 2013, 10:28:29 »

Scenario. The Nova cats were running low on ammo. They spied an unprotected storage area along a river front. They decided to liberate the supplies, which included ammunition.

The comguards were just a bunch of mech warriors from destroyed lvl II's. they all just found them selves at this depot with no leadership other than the lvl II tank commander.

The first blood went to the clans on the first round, destroying a Lancelot. The comguards retaliated by destroying a mist lynx.

There was a lot of head shots in this game. A cauldron born,a mad dog and some others were destroyed within a couple rounds to head hits.

the game was called after 4 hours of play, the Comguard had won the day.

Here is the official after action report :

Ok, here is the battle report for the Nova Cats.

First, the scenario --- for the Nova Cats, it was to seize the ammo dump, reload, and then proceed 2 kilometers and hit the Comguards in the flank, and hopefully, allow the rest of their clan to break out of the encircling Comguards.

During the initial attack, the Nova Cats had ran over, and past, the initial Comguard lines, and had struck deeply into the Comguard positions... however, rather than listen to Clan Wolf, they had instead taken their advice from the Smoke Jaguars, and had configured their mechs for a typical Clan engagement. Because of this, their headlong charge was unsustainable.... and, to make it worse, the units they blew through regrouped behind them. So, 2 stars were tasked with sneaking down the river, hitting the supply depot, and then, as stated,. attacking the Comguards from the outside of the ring.. and allowing a break out. As such, they were given what ammo remained (in most cases, less than a full ton remained), as the hope of the Clan was riding on them.

For the Comguards, the initial attacks by both the Smoke Jaguars, and the Nova Cats, produced a LOT of confusion. Both Clans attacked and over-ran the forward units and positions of the Comguards.... to the point that a lot of the Comguard Pilots were scattered and cut off from leadership.... However, their radar system does show a friendly site.... so the pilots starting heading that way, looking for anyone that can tell them where they were supposed to be.

On turn 1, -- the Cats rose up out of the water, catching all but the armor support of the Comguards off guard..... And in that first salvo of fire, the Nova Cats eviscerated one of the Comguard Mechs, a Lancelot, destroyed a Marsden Tank, and scattered damage on other units. While the Comguard mechs were surprised, the armor unit showed surprising fire discipline and managed to destroy a Clan mech, sinking the Dasher back into the water.

On turn 2,-- heady with their success, the Nova Cats charged up the beach, while the Comguards attempted to regroup, and create a fire line --- there was much scattered fire, with a good amount of damage given on both sides.... resulting in a Commando being opened "like a can of sardines" as has been reported elsewhere (personally, I didn't think that the Commando had as much armor as a can of sardines....) Meanwhile, the Comguards showed amazing fire discipline, and managed combined fire that both, took out the Shoulder and PPC on the left arm of the Loki, and also resulted in 2 head hits to the Puma (piloted by Dan Shoemaker, who would prove to be the master of catching shots with his head, all through the weekend)

Turn 3, -- At this point all discipline on the Nova Cat side was lost, with each warrior racing into the Comguard, in a frenzy..... many scattering their shots wildly amongst the Comguards..... meanwhile, the disciplined Comguards continued combining fire, stripping armor, and killing Dan's Vulture with a double head hit from a PPC, and then, an AC/10.
A Shadowcat was also torn down, death due to overwhelming firepower that resulted in the loss of both side torsos, an engine crit in the center, a head hit..... and loss of a leg.
Before dropping, however, the Vulture did strip all the armor from the CT of a Shadowhawk, pushing it into range of a forced withdrawal.... (only needed one more point of damage to the RT, or.... a crit or two in the center)..... And while the Griffin missed the kick on the Koshi, it managed to keep it's feet and force the close fight onto the Clan warriors.

Turn 4, -- As in all previous turns, the Clans win initiative, but due to Comguard maneuvering, they are continually forced to fire on fresh targets. During this turn, the very disciplined combined fire from the Comguards began to take it's toll.... and while the Commando was forced into withdrawal.... the Puma collected an AC/5 and an AC/10 to the head, to join the two SRM hits from earlier, removing the head.....
In addition, the Cauldron Born raced into close combat with nearly a Level II of Comguards..... it wasn't pretty, and went from undamaged, to destroyed in one turn.

Turn 5, --- while a few of the Comguard mechs were starting their runs for the edge of the field... the Majority forced themselves onto the remaining star of Clanners.... By this point of the Battle, the Clan mechs were pretty much devoid of armor, so nearly every hit was a crit, or had a substantial effect... from here, and over the next 3 rounds, the Clan mechs fought valiantly, but death was awarded, due to overwhelming firepower.
