Battle of Coloma board from Soonercon 28
« on: 11 June 2019, 12:11:15 »
This is the board I built for out big game at Soonercon 28 last weekend. The board was about 4ft x 10ft.

The scenario I put together was the Liberation of Coloma based off a battle mentioned in Shattered Fortress. This board included many items I created and designed myself along with items from IWM, Hardware Studios, Iliada Game Studios and a few files from Thingiverse. Enjoy, and if you have questions please let me know.

I have attached a preview photo.

It was big . . .

And we wrecked the lance of Kuritan mechs waiting in their hanger for the pilots.

I never asked, did you expect that to happen?

A little too quick. The terrain the DCMS side was more hindering. I may reconfig the mission a bit and rereun it on  a smaller scale at GHQ for those that could not make the con, at some point.

I think the Dav's mech selection will need to include faster units too.  Not sure if Brent just went with higher BV to keep the numbers down since most our mechs were 4/6 or slower with a single 5/8.  We did not have anything that could really punch it, especially when the assaults just walked forward.

I do not fully agree with that but we can discuss it elsewhere. I would like to not let this post stray too far since it is in the terrain section of the forum.

Sure, sorry . . .

Biggest problem we had, is if folks can see it in the picture, was getting fingers & minis in the hanger once it started getting packed.

I think I may build another hanger without those cross supports in the middle but add extra bracing. I will talk to Ali at Ilada see what he would suggest. It was interesting though to duke it out inside that building. That is the first that I have participated in a battle like that.

I can't tell from the photo, but could the hangar use a removable roof to allow access?

Battletech transport rules take a very feline approach to moving troops in a combat zone: If they fits, they ships.

You bought the box set and are ready to expand your BT experience. Now what? (Thanks Sartis!)

Oh it had a roof . . . but we evil Feddies got a heavy and our assaults up and angled so they could shoot in through the door, then a hovertank roared in . . . then the Dracs drove their hover APCs and tanks in.  We had a shoot out in the hanger while mechwarriors raced to get to their machines.  Getting fingers down in there was problematic when we were having to use stacking rules for each hex- and they were larger than standard size!

I misplaced the roof during setup, but it has one. That roof will eventually have leds. I am going to cut out the center cross braces and move those to the end. Then add other bracing to reinforce the sides. Then the whole center should be easier to access when everyone and their grandma are fighting in it.
