A few FWL Age of War Tanks
« on: 06 October 2018, 10:27:19 »
in the late 25th century, the FedSuns got the Tiger, and the Lyrans the Marsden. Where's the FWL standard tech successor to the Estevez/Kestrel?

The Harpy was born from a desire to field a fast tracked skirmisher. While respectably armed for an Age of War tank, the huge engine necessitated a smaller LRM rack and less armor than requested. The LCCC procurement department touts the latter deficiency as a feature rather than a bug as it "encourages tank crews to engage hostile targets in a manner consistent with the recommended envelope afforded by the vehicle's armament"

Still obsessed with speed over firepower, the LCCC commissioned a second design a few years later. The Great Kite was meant to "replicate the loadout of the Merkeva VIII while maintaining a top speed over 64 kph along the lines of the T-12 Tiger." Such a design necessitated a great deal of compromise, especially (again) in protection. The Great Kite offers over six fewer tons of armor than the Marsden- a deficiency not, as designers contend, mitigated by higher top speeds.
