Record Sheets: Beyond the Frontier!

A record sheet book full of units intended for use in scenarios set in the depths of the Periphery. At present a work in progress that seems to continue to grow despite my best efforts.

The long term goal is a combination TRO/Record Sheet book, with full TRO style writeups for four combat vehicles, sixteen battlemechs, four aerofighters, and one dropship, as well as general overview for four types of infantry, ICE battlemech refits, and primitive combat vehicles.

For now, I'm posting entries on the design boards as I write them, with the following units currently finished:

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

I've already downloaded this book, and I really like it. Lots of, shall we say, flavorful designs.

Updated the link to the latest version. Version 5 according to Google Docs.

There may have been an entire new light tank thrown in there, in addition to a taskmaster with advanced fire control.

Version 6!

The problem, you see, is when I'm writing the fluff for each unit is mostly when I figure out what variants it should have, so every time I write backstory for another unit, the book gets bigger.

Version seven! In addition to the new variants of the mudskipper we have more infantry, more mechs, and even more spacecraft.

Since the fluff writing takes a long time, here's some teasery bits to add some context to some of the units that appear in this book.

Berserker infantry: a piratical combination of drugs and crude brain surgery to create crazed shock troops to frighten the populace of their targets.

All the generically named combat support vehicles: Generic combat vehicles for worlds that can't build or acquire modern combat vehicles. Most of them would also work pretty well in a pre-battlemech or early battlemech age of war setting

ICE battlemechs: Just battlemechs that might be relatively common in the periphery refitted with internal combustion engines, because fusion engines can be hard to come by.

Cosmos: A bimodal LAM, largely an enigma to the Inner Sphere, but it seems to date back to the Star League era, and is being operated by a relatively unknown spaceborn group in the deep rimward periphery. When encountered, they tend to be peaceful, offering trade and advising travelers to stay away from the California Nebula. The concept of the UC variant is a shameless ripoff of the Crane Utility LAM

Digger: A combat industrialmech originally built on the planet of Goldbluff, which has slowly proliferated into the the deep periphery as a cheap garrison mech.

Rambler: A remnant of Amaris' Secret Army. The ammunition bay is located directly under the pilot and has a habit of exploding.

Rockhammer Industrialmech: A mech for mining in hazardous environments and a predecessor to the Rockhound

Shadow Hawk 1P: A common (primitive) battlemech of the Kingdom of Plymoth

Shadow Knight: Totally not a Shadow Hawk in a fancy new skin. The new hotness of Lewis County

Koloss: The first (primitive) battlemech of the nation of Novyy Rodina

Lugh: A common battlemech of the nation of Dal Riata

Warthog: A tripod, a legend of the deep periphery, and a gag about how an interplanetary species is going to have trouble identifying terran animals.

Battlehammer: A heavy mech built by the semi-feudal world of Foxhaven, after it was done civil warring with itself.

Minerva Dropship: A Taurian dropship dating back to the reunification war that has managed to linger in the periphery.

Rapier, Vesper, and Jasper: primitive craft operated by the largely space-based Interstellar Confederation

Aquilla-Type Jumpship: There are already at least two canon examples of deep periphery factions operating primitive jumpships in the modern day, and Beyond the Frontier is going to add a couple more, so I included a late generation Aquilla.

Fair warning, the current record sheet book doesn't contain record sheets for all the versions of the Cosmos mentioned in its TRO post. They will be in the next version, but I want to hold off on updating the record sheets until I've gotten at least a little more of the TRO side done.

Coming soon (so far) in the next update

*Rifle field gun batteries in heavy and medium calibers. Light rifles got excluded both because of how I'm laying out this book and because they aren't effective against modern mechs and vehicles.
*Security Drones: Four varieties of small autonomous security drones that might be found lurking around a lost star league outpost
*NS-17: A larger cousin to the smaller security drones, based on the "Security Robot" found in the first edition of the Mechwarrior RPG
*Hedgehog Tripod: A shoe-in for the design most likely to be eventually invalidated by canon. The TRO entry will actually focus on a drone version, and the fluff will primarily be about the development of drone mechs in the Star League.

Okay, couldn't avoid it anymore. Version 8 is now up. In addition to what I just mentioned above and two versions of the Suomi tank operated by Foxhaven (which I will totally get around to updating the Suomi fluff to account for) there is now a gaggle of Gremlins.

Because the Gremlin armored car was next on my to do list. And reviewing the stardate article led to some corrections to the version that was in there, the addition of two more variants mentioned in the article, and two more variants that I made up apparently just because.

Anyway, we're up to 197 pages now. Think I can keep this from breaking two hundred?

So I had to do version 9, because I completely revised the security drones to give most of them environmental sealing (unfortunately you can't give a 200 kg VTOL environmental sealing). I also added a more modern J5 variant drone, because I wanted to make a dated movie reference.

So far, the next version is shaping up to be 201 pages, with two new variants of the NS-17 and two more Jinetes added as I wrote fluff.

I wanna see if I can get through at least the next two units on the list without making it even bigger.

Version Ten is now uploaded. This adds the missing variants for the NS-17, Jinette, Rambler, and Hedgehog, as well as three new variants of the Rockhammer prospectormech (which should be next on the writing block).

Sneakily updated to Version 11. In addition to the stuff I mentioned earlier, there's a couple additional variants of mechs I already covered and more ICE versions of more familiar mechs.

229 pages.
